Hey,
I was wondering how you can change the icons (such as the hard drive) to something different. Ive seen many pictures of people having changed icons.

There's a program called CandyBar that's like an icon manager. Not only can you change desktop icons but other system icons as well. It's pretty cool, check it out!

To change the icons on your desktop...
You can do this manually by going into 'get info' in the 'File' menu of a file with the desired icon, click on the icon once and and copy it. Then go into the Get Info box of what ever you want to change and click on the icon and paste the other icon into it.
Programs can also change the icons like Kaliedoscope, Kineticon (evan animates the icons) and you can also modify the system icons manually by using resedit on the system file and to modify the icons in there.
Well thats what you can do if you are using OS 7 - 9

or u could do it yourself and go to Show Info (for icon ud like to copy)
select the icon with mouse, copy it...
show info for item you'd like to change icon
select icon w/ mouse, paste it...
this way, if u dont have the icon FILE you can copy any files icon for use
and it stays even if said file is deleted.

I don't know if it's just me, but I discovered something funny when I changed my icons manually. When I paste an icon on a document, folder, program, or alias through the "Show Info" window, I discover that I can't change it to something else once I've changed it. I'm running 10.2, and I didn't have this problem under 10.1. Any thoughts?

The problem that you are having changing icons is a new bug introduced in jaguar. You need to use the program Candy Bar to get around this limitation.
