hi
I have a chance to get a 1.67GHz 15" PowerBook G4 for about $230. Is it worth this price or not? Thinking of buying it but not sure yet... (I use an intel MacBook too, but I have always wanted a PowerPC mac :p)

That is a bit much, as even Mac2Sell says it might be worth only 310 USD, and Mac2Sell is known to give higher estimates.

Btw, it is called a "PowerBook", not PowerMac.

There are two models for the 15 inch, A1106 for the 15 inch lores and A1138 for the 15 inch hires. For the lores 230 is enough if bought on ebay. Hires gets a higher selling price.

If you just want a PPC to play with, get a powermac, they are very cheap. In my opinion, G4 laptops are way over priced, unless you get lucky, like I did with my iBook. I also bought a Powermac 933 mgz Quicksilver, with Leopard installed for only $50.

Short answer: yes, it's a decent price for that machine assuming it has no cosmetic or functional issues.

Thinking of buying it but not sure yet... (I use an intel MacBook too, but I have always wanted a PowerPC mac :p)

If you just want a machine to fool around with for fun, this one ain't bad - but bear in mind that it is almost a technological orphan from Apple's perspective, as Apple is continuously moving away from supporting the PowerPC. It can't run the most current OS anymore, and software updates will dry up soon. It's still a good second machine though.

You can get G4 towers very cheap these days - ignore the online reseller prices because they are often very high. Even MDD models are going for well under $100 these days if you look around. The Mac Mini has deflated the used value of G4 towers, and to a lesser extent, later Mac towers as well.
