i read that earlier today and was surprised as well. i spent 80$ on the stereo connector kit (which was a mistake because the cable is way overpriced, but i decided to get it because it came with the dock and an extra charger brick) and 40$ on a case. so 120$ for me, a bit under the average.

ALL my Apple Purchases:

20 GB 3G iPod: $399
iPod USB/Firewire cable for 3G iPod: $19
AppleCare protecion plan for iPod with Dock Connector: $149 (about...)
Apple USB Keyboard: $29

It is amazing how much prices have dropped on the iPod: I got mine for $399 and the 40 GB was $499. The old days!

Besides the 15" PowerBook (SD), 20" Cinema Display (For the PowerBook) and two iPod mini's, I've bought:

Two Apple Keyboards ($49 each)
Apple Bluetooth Mouse ($70)
Airport Express ($129)
Two iPod Firewire cables ($20 each)
So I've spent ~$340 in Apple accessories.

That is certainly a win win situation for Apple and the companies involved. It's the accessories that provide additional pleasure.
