This reminds me of the cheap stuff found in the Walgreens $5 bin. I saw a made in china power strip that had a warning about containing lead and wash hands after handling. Nice :(

I wouldn't trust 3rd party chargers, but that's just me.

I would rather go with Belkin at the Apple Store... gives me an edge if things don't work out....

I agree with this. Batteries and chargers are two things that you are always best served by buying brand names. The thing could damage your device or set your house on fire.

At one time I was looking to do some OEM business with IBM, Dell, HP etc. for branded Surge protectors. It turns out 99% of all surge protectors from APC, Curtis, Belkin etc are manufactured by one factory in China. I have bought lots of different power adapters during my sojourns in the back alleys of Hong Kong (http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/04/hong-kong-gadget-flea-market-a-blast-from-the-past) and have learned to recognize quality from junk. I'll report back, Meanwhile I got this to go with it. http://cgi.ebay.com/Coiled-USB-Sync-cable-BLACK-4-iPad-iPod-iPhone-4G-3GS-/300497030613?_trksid=p5197.m7&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D3%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D8717161033311950440

Just because two different parts are made at the same factory doesn't mean they're of the same resulting quality. Specifications, materials source parameters, and quality requirements cam vary based on who is ordering the production run.

I'm not saying the quality can't be as good, but don't make the fallacious assumption that all parts coming out of the same factory are identical.

Given that my friend owned that factory, I can safely say the differences were minor. The differences were more design and components selected. It all came down to cost and margin. The manufacturing process and line were the same. They made production runs for different products in batches with the same assembly teams.
