iPod touch "usernames" don't work

when I try to sign up for different apps and enter usernames on these apps ...EVERY TIME it says "username is already taken". I try others but I cannot sign up!

It sounds like something is being blocked or some sort of file is restricting ANY sign ups....I've tried all kinds of usernames but EVERYONE does not work...

Does anyone know what's wrong or have suggestions to get around this?
