Wow I wish I could figure out how to post on Mac Rumors.

I'll just describe my cars then

1) 2005 Mercedes E320 CDI- Black with Black interrior, pretty much loaded, Gets exceptional gas mileage-

2) 2004 Land Rover Range Rover HSE 4.4 -Black with Black interrior. A-Frame Brush Guard (covers just the grill), tail light gards, 19" wheels (stock)

3) 2001 Land Rover Range Rover HSE 4.6 -Grey-Silver with Black Interrior. Wrap around brush guards, tail light guards, roof rack (OEM) with Thule ski rack, 18" Wheels (stock), Dual 6.5" TVs in headrests- came with them, never have used them.
(Maybe soon to be replaced by new BMW 3 series)

I love my mercedes because its pretty quiet for a diesel, very nice cruising car. My favorite car is my '04 Range Rover, it has such a detailed interrior and exterior not to mension the very cool air suspersion ('01 also has it). I really like my '01 Range Rover, it has more of a off road ability and more of the heart of a Land Rover (yea not like the originals though). Despite the poor fuel economy of my Range Rovers, there unexceptional reliabilty, high repair costs, horrendous price devaluation, they are such beautifully built vehicles.

I like the new 3-series that are coming out. I miss the sporty feel of my audi A4 3.0 which was replaced by my E320 because the E320 got such great gas mileage.

Sample Pics- since I can't figure out how to do pics- i did a google image search
--Heres some similar pics to my '04 RR: Sample Pic (this one does not have the A-Frame brush guard (http://image.blog.livedoor.jp/takaf51/1cdd6ecc.jpg)
-- Sample Pic of my '01 Range Rover Ebay Link- Closest I could get (http://www.ebizautos.com/vitobosco/detail.cfm?iid=583042)

Hey puckhead, tell your parents I want one, too!

Here's mine, at the Peterson coal mine in Alabama on a sample collecting trip in January. Can't see the Apple sticker (it's on the right rear), but it's there, I assure you. It was my first car; I got it in 1997, new, when I was 20. Still in graduate school, eight loooong years later... And let me tell you, I am very much looking forward to living above the poverty line (dang graduate stipends) :)

Depends if your in them or behind them :). In the picture I'm with my cousin's girlfriend. we were doing our "album Cover" shot. Saw it on southpark. Faith+1. I also have a 1971 Citroen staion wagon. It doesn't run but its a pretty car. I picked it up for 500 bucks. To bad the enigne is froze up :(. And my motorcycle is a 1976 Kawaski kz900. It gets it. I have traveled a little on it. In the pic I was getting ready to go to santa cruz from Weaverville. Not to far but fun. Oh well the van may not be super fast or have much for a heater. But it sure does have a lot of wingwindows for the summer. Nad it can haul alot of friends for some good times.

My Jaguar.

Bought second hand so not nearly as expensive as you might think. Yes it's expensive to run. Yes it does 350 miles for £60 worth of petrol. No you can't get roof racks to fit so ski trips are difficult. No you cannot fit 4 full size (taller than say 5"6') in at all. But it's all worth it. :)

Joe Clark, (1991 Ford Taurus L [I hate Ford], 3.0L V6, 18/24/33 [City/Short Fwy/Long Fwy]) Drive it back and forth between Whidbey Island, WA and Flint, MI (via Lafayette, IN). Currently with out it, as I am 1100 miles from it. Nice interior, and no rust, just has an AM/FM Stereo though. Hope to replace it soon. It was FREE, from a church friend, to goto work in Porltand (since Laid off), in exchange for a little computer work on her iMac G4.
BTW, the other car in the picture is my parents 1992 Honda Civic, cost them $36 (cost to transfer the title) + $1000 in repairs. Was in an accident, and the punk owner didn't want it (and his parents are our neighbors).

My Ka (pronounced CAR!). I only drive to work in it, nice and nippy round the city centre and easy to park. CD, air-con so not poverty spec.

Pic is from Fords website, but mine is similar. Wife has a bigger car (Mazda 6 TS2) we use on longer journeys.

Don't have these in the US, far to small! Nice design though and being a Mac user thats what it's all about.

I wish I had a picture of our old pickup (1989 Generic Toyota Pickup)...boy what a mess that thing was.

* Stolen in 1991; recovered half submerged in a lake 50 miles away.
* Bumper, bed liner stolen.

* Bumper replaced with a wooden plank painted black and some cheap signal lights mounted on it.

* Hood lock broke, replaced with a bungee cord.

* Horn did not worked, hacked a button under the dash.

* Starter was faulty, a cheap hack was made by a mechanic--a button under the dash would reroute the wiring, if normal ignition did not work. One would press the button while turning the key this was the de facto way to start the car.

My family used this car for over 11 years in this condition. We finally gave up and got rid of it last year. And I actually miss it a little...

I just sold my 1986 Toyota HiLux (similar)
these are it's issues:
-Leaky heater/radiator hose hoses,
-leaky rocker cover gasket,
-sticky throttle
-rusted out exhaust
-no hand break
-loose tappets
-no front right light assembly
-more rust than a gallon of bog would fix
-tailgate damage
-Kangaroo damage to front right
-stereo was 50% at best
-broken battery mounts
-broken second catch on the bonnet/hood

Boy was it a blast to dive though, was a true drivers car. I've got a fe photos of the front disc rotors glowing after a night cruze.

I greatly admire your frugality. My parents and grandparents paid cash for a car. Once he purchased a car on credit, just because he wanted to improve his credit rating. Because of my wife being a visiting nurse and the deductibility of the car we have leased them. Our first car in Boston we leased, then extended the lease for an additional 2 years. It was a good car, then we ended up purchasing the car. The car lasted 11 years until it threw a rod. The second car, my wife didn't like as well. So it was leased for 5 years.

I was only there for two years, so you got me beat :)

I did like the library, it was the best thing on campus. They can't go wrong with that. I hope they plant some more trees, though. It was pretty barren. On of the presidents many years ago didn't like trees and had them all cut down.

They are still teaching one or two geology classes, but the major is gone. My advisor has retired, and another fellow has moved over to education, neither have been replaced. Two more are almost ready to retire, and the last professor is actively looking for another institution. There was a big, nasty blowup in the Geosciences program a year or two ago.

And now, back to your regularly scheduled thread............

That is a very nice winter scene picture. I don't blame the car at all for taking the winter to rest, a tarp would have been nice.

Is the car just used in good weather?

Just used in the 3 seasons of good driving...it's fine in rain. I've considered a cover but previous ones I've had didn't really help keeping water off the car so I felt like it didn't make any difference. So far as I can tell the snow doesn't really do anything. The car originally came from Texas and the first winter we were here I had a great picture of it completely covered with nothing to see but the Texas part of the license plate. It's on my computer that I can't get anything off of yet or I would have put that one on due to its comic value.

Ahh, my baby!

My parents gave it to me when I went into 1st grade. I ride it Monday - Friday, and it has only been in ONE accident.

I even have my own driver and assistant!

And I dont need to pay for my own gas and I can do anything on it...

It has a great soundsystem once I put my iPod headphones on my ears, and it has an 'old school' look to it...

Yea they are front wheel drive turbos they have the same engine as the lancer evolution just with a smaller turbo. They made the hardtop version in both all-wheel drive models and front wheel drive and I have seen a few people convert the ragtops to all wheel drive.

There are some hatchbacks in the US. My Scion tC posted up above is a hatchback. I think they are started to gain popularity as the SUV fade I think hit its peak and is declining.

Thanks, Hob. My Z24 is the last model before Chevy revamped this model in the mid 2002 with 2.2 Eco Tech engine (GM put in almost all the options on this car except for a sun roof). It's a light car and a 2.4 L twin cam engine gives it a nice pick up.

The color is red; because of the lighting angle and paint sealant/wax, its reflection under sun light gives off an orangish tint to red.

Lots of nice, and expensive cars in members driveways

mines a black 1999 honda CR-V -- i'de love to have a little sporty thing, but my lifestyle does really allow it

i gotta roof rack for skis/bikes, big trunk for lugging around gear (cameras/lights, extension cords 'lol' -- 2x4's -- just about anything i need) -- pretty damn good on gas

i can sleep in this thing if i need to (done it a few times)

it's pretty much like my mobile office - i spent most of my time running from school to assignment -- Cellphone is my best friend/worst enemy

i'de take pictures but it's totally covered in salt right

to be honest, i wouldn't trade this thing -- even though i love driving my dad's C230

i think i'm just going to buy a Motorcycle (but thats a ways away <-- my insurence is too high right now as it is)

Well, my car at the moment is a Scania, and I get chauffeur driven! I can make as many trips as I want for $50, yes $50 a month and it's a stretch limo at 15 m long! In case you haven't guessed, I CATCH THIS BUS:

http://www.busaustralia.com/gallery/albums/august04/BT783pg.sized.jpg

HAHAHAHA!

But our family's main car is a Ford Fairlane G220. It's an Australian model for those who are going, wtf?!?!?! I hope to "inherit" this car one day when we get a new one in a year or two.... But I'll probably end up with a Focus or one of those new Astras.

Here it is:

http://img27.exs.cx/img27/9259/fairlane5hq.jpg

My favourite part about the car is the screen on the dashboard. Here is a pic of it on a holiday in Melbourne a year or two back. It was VERRRRY HOTTTT... 41 degrees C (about 105 deg. fahrenheit). As you can see it was doing pretty poorly on fuel consumption when the photo was taken. It was doing 11 L/100km, or about 22 mpg. It's now doing 9 L/100 km, or 26 mpg in the city traffic which is still mediocre, but pretty good for a 220 kW V8... And it's rear wheel drive as well... One thing american cars lack these days (the Taurus failed here because of that, and because it looked ugly as hell!)

Nah the Australian fairlane is supposed to be the 'luxury' model, like a Crown Victoria is/was in America. It shares design cues with the lower Ford Falcon, see http://www.ford.com.au/falcon/ for more info. The Fairlane has been on sale since the 60s I think... we used to import them from America, along with a lot of other Ford stuff! Now the only american cars in the Ford Australia lineup are the F250, F350 and the Explorer, which will probably be canned because it's selling terribly here. Compared to the jap stuff the Explorer is very small inside. But all in all, the newer Australian Fairlanes are entirely different from the concept of the old American ones.

I'd agree, the CRV wheels look too small as well, but at the time of the CRV purchase, thats the biggest size they came with (15inch) and the RidgeLine's tires its the same deal, those are the biggest (17inch) and also look small.

Hmmm, I think Honda won on the "looks less stupid" competition by a safe margin, mainly by avoidance of plastic. Worst of all is Chevy's plastic roll-bar-ish things. Amazingly stupid looking, and entirely non-functional. The Honda might even reach "normal looking" with a nice fitted fiberglass topper.

Yes I'm serious, but I dont really think much of it, neither does he, sure it goes hard, but it definatly wasnt worth the $80,000. His buisness partner gave it to him for the meantime (as he just bought a Porsche 911), and he's going to get something else, it looks like he's leaning toward a Volvo 4WD.

That's a bit disappointing. As I posted before, I'm running round in kinda the standard Holden equivalent and loving it. It's great bang for bucks quality. Ahh well, it makes me feel less bad next time I don't upgrade to a faster HSV V8 then...

Yeah it kinda ruins the whole SUV look to have civic-spec wheels. ;)

Sadly though, chevy still has somehow managed to sell a crapload of them, even the firest revisions that had all that plastic cladding on the bottem.

I drive a 1997 Toyota 4Runner. Back in the day, my friends and I used to load up our bikes and go mountain biking. Now we're all too busy I guess... :(

http://www.bikegods.org/calendar/final/01january_lo.jpg

One time, being a big Van Halen fan, I striped it like Eddie Van Halen's guitars using white tape (and lots of wax underneath so it came off easily). Kinda stupid but fun so who cares... :p

http://www.bikegods.org/mike/relaypoint/4runner/frank2a.jpg

Before this one I had an identical 1996 Toyota 4Runner. That one only lasted nine months before being smashed to smithereens by a drunk driver (we all walked away just fine).

http://www.bikegods.org/mike/relaypoint/4runner/96fronth.jpg

My wife drives a 2002 Nissan Altima.

http://www.mikeandbev.org/altima/altima1l.jpg

We put up some pictures soon after getting it so family could see. I guess it showed up pretty high in Google's image search for awhile, so pretty soon I started noticing a bunch of hits on this image from external websites. Mostly just car-based forums where people were posting about what cars they wanted.

I decided to have a little fun. :D

I added some url rewriting rules so that depending on where the hit came from, it would get an alternate image and show up in that forum post as something else. A few images I used were:

http://www.losercars.com/images/loser13.jpg

That's gotta be because they've taken deposits on it but they still haven't actually given any of them to their owners because they're having serious problems with that whole 400km/h top speed. It is pretty hefty considering a 747 takes off at 290km/h!

Yeah, they've been taking deposits on the Veyron for a while now. I know they've got several test mules already. I've seen footage of one at Laguna Seca (Mazda Raceway), where the driver almost stuffed it into the wall. I've also heard that a lot of the people who put deposits down have withdrawn.

Maybe the original poster was talking about another Buggati or something??

some of you might find this interesting:
How would you define the most amazing production car in the world? Would it be:

* The car with the most horsepower?
* The car with the fastest top speed and acceleration?
* The most expensive car?

At the moment, the Bugatti Veyron appears to have it all:

* A W-16 engine that can produce 1,001 horsepower
* A top speed of 250+ mph (400+ kph)
* A zero-to-60 time of three seconds
* A zero-to-180 time of 14 seconds
* A price tag somewhere in the $1 million range.

In this article, we will take an in-depth look at this amazing automobile and see how it is possible to fit so much performance into a single machine. It all starts with the engine...

puckhead, I can't say I like the direction that Lexus are taking their range. I liked the old series GS and now they are looking more and more like Toyotas. The IS was just that, INTELLIGENT SPORTS, not a real luxury sports car. I am going to replace the IS200 with a 2004 GS300 in July, especially because my wife likes the added power of my car (182Kw) and we will need a larger car soon, because a bassinet won't fit in the IS without the passenger seat all thw=e way forward, and I am 6'3''. There is no problems in the Territory, but people from ATAU will know how attached to that car I am.

Devie, all Ford V8's in Australia have a 5.4 Litre V8, not a 5.2. Don't get me started on that (wife wouldn't let me get a XR8, so I had to get a Territory)

Personally, I dislike the X3. I think it looks like a shoe (yes a shoe) and the interior isn't anything special. I liked the X5 more but my mom liked the small size and better fuel economy of the X3.

I like the Discovery (even though most people don't). Even though it is boxy, has a very old looking dashboard, and gets about 14mpg, I think it is just an awesome car and I would happy to drive it as my first car if my dad wants to sell it.

My sisters Jeep is ok. She loves it but I would never want a Wrangler.

I like the Grand Cherokee. It is a good reliable car especailly compared to the Disco. I hate the new Grand Cherokee. It looks sooo bad. We're going to sell the Jeep though.

I love the Discovery too. LR screwed up with the LR3, I've only seen a few on the road. The Range Rover Sport also could have been better. It has almost the same dashboard as the LR3.

I see you are from CT. Are your parents a customer of the Land Rover of Farmington Valley Dealership (odd question)?

For the record iceTrX the Holden Monaro is also available in Europe, this time round badged up as both Vauxhall and Opel Monaro's.

But the really mental one is the Monaro VXR - 6 litre v8 400 ponys and 0-60 in 5 seconds. Problem is here in the UK petrol prices are going up, up, up [almost 92p/litre] so something like this would cost a small fortune to run on a daily basis!!

IT was prototyped in 2003 and it recieved a huge response so in 98 isuzu used a ceramic mold technique to produce a limited run of them... It's a very fun SUV. built from the ground up for rally-cross. It was ahead of it's time. stopped production in 2002. for quite a while it was one of the fastest 0-60 SUV's in production. And it nearly handles like a car, but has almost 18 inches of wheel travel when off road. Put the SC on it and it still hangs with the fastest SUVs on the road ;-). i think it's almost the SUV porsche wanted to make, lol. put a few more horsepower and ome brembos on it, he he.

The red and black leather interior is what sold me. reminded me of old 911's.

definitely get's me a lot of questions in traffic and at gas stations.

840quadra, is that a rabbit?! Man, my bf is so obssesed... he wants one so badly. If so, yours looks like it's in fantastic shape!

Nope it is a Jetta Coupe. Not too many were made, and VW made them the base model car for the Jetta lineup in the year I bought it. The only options it had in 90 were a Sunroof, or AC. Mine has no AC but it does have the sunroof. It's a great car, and I drive it mostly in the summer.

however I do have both a Rabbit, and an 81 Scirocco (no pictures online). As soon as I have some recent photos of the cars, I can post em up for you. The RAbbit I have is a Black GTI, with some mods (nothing visual).

hmmm... I dont know. I like them with the emblems for some reason... "w/e floats your boat" lol. (sounds like something my dad would say! lol :) )

I didn't really debadge my cars, I simply blacked out the emblems so they stand out less. I am proud to own and drive VW, I just don't like the BIG silver clown nose on the fronts of my cars. The Black badge on the Jetta is actually a factory part from a Jetta GLI (Sport model).

I had debaged my trunk:
http://img345.imageshack.us/img345/1606/img00070ig.th.jpg (http://img345.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img00070ig.jpg)

But now it has a badge:
http://img345.imageshack.us/img345/6634/img91771nv.th.jpg (http://img345.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img91771nv.jpg)
(if you're wondering why the car is so dirty, it's from this (http://img33.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img90909kr.jpg))

And I rebadged the front:
http://img345.imageshack.us/img345/6846/img91876dy.th.jpg (http://img345.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img91876dy.jpg)

So I guess, I'm of the type that likes the emblems too.

Good old Rally Cross.

I just got done working at the Ojibwe forrest pro rally in Minnesota. I worked the rally and brought my honda XR-50 Pitbike up to the event for my work duties at one of the stadium events.

Subaru driver Travis Pastrana actually took notice to me riding around and we got to chat for a bit. He autographed my front number plate on my XR, good times!

I am scheduled to work at LSPR in Michigan in october for their Pro Rally, I am excited as can be!

That is one strange looking car. The front reminds me of a porsche for some reason.

izuzu vehicross (sp?)

Great little SUV, came with factory RECARO seats, nice stereo, good power for it's size and class, and great handling.

I got to see one in action at a local Autocross, it got better times then many cars!

I remember talking to you about working at the rallys. I've now worked two of them here in CA, Treeline and Gorman Ridge. I'm probably gonna work at the Laughlin, NV rally as well.

Here is my 2005 Explorer XLT Sport 4x4 V6. I am lucky it is an FFV vehicle because I am still getting E85 fuel for a decent price. It's MSRP was $34,000 and I bought it for $25,000 with the employee discount. I guess the only real cool things about it is the 300watt CD6/MP3/Sirus stereo and the AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control that Ford pulled from the Volvo XC90. Over all I am pretty happy with it, the V6 is fairly economical for a midsized 4x4.

Well Ford does own Volvo now so it makes sense to use the technology to help prevent rollovers. I did not get the service yet, we will see how the budget looks in a month or so. It's all compatible so it would be nice.

Hmmm...

Saab 9-7x IMO is ugly. That and its a sportend up luxeried up chevy trialblazer/GMC Envoy/Buick Rainier/what ever else it is rebadged as.

Volvo XC90: Nice car, decent interior, I know a few people that have them. They love them (but then again they are volvo people). I amazed at how small they are, yet even if the 3rd row seat is up (with 3rd row seat package), there is still a good amount of cargo space in the trunk. The 2.5l engine doesn't seem like enough power- I don't know, I've only driven the T6

VW Touareg: The 2nd most awesome SUV currently out. I love its interrior. I think it has the best fit and finish. Lots of options available (4-zone climate control, Air Suspension, etc). I personally love them. My brother-in-law has the V8 Toureg and it is truely an amazingly designed car. A few downsides of it though: V6 IMO isn't enough power for the car, bad fuel economy, poor reliability, euro car = fairly high repair costs in US

Reliability wise: Saab 9-7x (now that they are owned by GM, and the 9-7x is basically a trail blazer)

Better quaility, long life, good price: Volvo XC90

Best Looking, Best Design, etc: Touareg

I congradulate you for correctly spelling Touareg (most people write toureg). I also suggest looking at the Lexus GX470- nice quality, good reliability. Or depending on your moms budget Range Rover Sport (56,000). I have the Range Rover (non sport) and I love it to death.

Remember though. Gas prices right now are not very SUV friendly.

I know a person who spent $130 filling up her 14mpg chevy suburban.

I'm sorry, but I just don't like how Ford also stole the S80 platform for their five hundred and freestyle suv (I rate in the top 10 ugliest cars, a car based SUV gone bad). AND how ford stole the VW/Audi/Porsche engineer for the five hundred, well didn't exactly steal, but used.

It does make everything cheaper using parts from different cars. But someday I can see the volvo s80 being the same car as a ford five hundred only with nicer features the same as a ford. Or the s40 based on the ford focus. Or the xc90 looks the same as the ford freestyle. etc.

Both the VX(R) 220 and the MOnaro have been discontinued on the UK :(

Blooming typical!! VX get it right and then they go and pull the plug!!!

I guess the residual values will hold pretty well. I've just had a quick look on AutoTrader and there's a couple of VXR 220's both just under 30k - ouch!! Opposed to the standard 220 Turbo averaging around the 19k mark with similar(ish) mileage and age.

Well, the MR2's sold and now I'm enjoing [ ] a Pug 306 TD.... god damn it's horrible!!!!!!!

I would also add that the XC90 is about the safest SUV money can buy right now. It has a very strong roof. Basically if you do roll it and roll it bad, you will be able to walk away because the roof won't crush in. It it would be pretty hard to roll in the first place with RSC (Volvo-Ford exclusive).

In fact, if I had a lot more money to spend on a new SUV I would have bought an XC90. I ended up with a Ford Explorer because it was about $15,000-20,000 less with discounts and will do anything one of those will do. I can pull my trailer and get around on the rural roads where I live in the winter. Plus the Explorer seemed to have a lot more cargo room then those more upscale mid-sized SUV's.

The Touareg is very nice but I know a person that bought one and it has turned out to be a headache. He has warranty, but it has been in the shop several times for every little thing you could imagine. When I first got my new Explorer a month ago he laughed at me because he thought it was "low-class" American junk. Well since his Touareg went back to the shop again and they are having problems getting the parts they need. He is driving a rental car right now...Guess who is having the last laugh now...

I guess I don't mind the looks of the Freestyle. I looked at one when I got my Explorer, but it just was not made for pulling a trailer and that is what I needed. I don't blame Ford for using the S80 chassis for the 500/Montego/Freestyle. What were they going to use? Base it on an old chassis like the outdated Taurus chassis? I mean that would be like GM. They are putting out so called all new cars that underneath are nothing more then a 1990 Chevy Lumina (W bodies).

Also the new Fusion/Milan/Zephyr is based on the Mazda 6 chassis, but I don't blame them there as well. The 6 is a great car, why not use it as a donor platform? Clean sheet designs are very expensive. If you buy the company then you can use what they have to offer. Maybe it is not exactly the right thing to do, but if Ford is going to stay in business they don't have much choice.

I guess I would prefer to see Ford platform sharing from Volvo and Mazda to Ford, Mercury and Lincoln then the other way around like GM has been doing!

Cool choice on the VW.

My mom has a 1994 Jetta GL that she refuses to get rid of. She almost got a GLX but found out how low of gas milage it got, and she didn't like how it felt on the corners (heavy engine). She used to do track events when she was younger, and loves her Jetta. It is currently sitting at 130k Miles, and has quite a list of modifications.

She got me hooked on my VW's, and I won't turn back. I love the fuel milage, and with the available mods, the power you can get from them and still get the same or better milage :) .

Yes, I definitely agree. A Volvo in general is safer. Had an S60 before and felt very safe.

My wife attended a Rodeo present by Volvo, it was at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, MA. She got to drive the XC90 through a rigorous course. She was really wowed by the experience.

Almost purchased the XC90 because of that. Just too much money, a larger car, and poor gas milage. The XC70 station wagon suits my wife very well, holds her medical equipment very well.

I only have 300 miles on it. I had to go to Iraq for a year and I got back in March and decided to trade off my old fashioned 2 stroke Arctic Cat snowmobile on this new 4 stroke Yamaha because I was tired of the smoke, injection oil, noise, and very poor fuel economy. The thing has massive amounts of torque and is fun to ride. The only disadvantage to the 4 stroke is it tends to be a heavier machine then the 2 stroke. It is not a lightweight racer like yours, but is actually not as heavy as you would think, about 545 lbs. dry.

I have a John Deere X585. 25hp fuel injected gasoline engine, 54" mower deck, auto transmission, Four Wheel Drive, locking rear diff., power steering, cruise control, tilt steering wheel, hydrolic lifts, 46" snow thrower, and I have a hard cab for it for the winter.

That is a very fancy lawnmower! WOW! It looks like it even has a lift kit on it. My parents got a new mower this summer, but they had to take the Craftsman route or it would have broke their budget!

The XC70 station wagon suits my wife very well, holds her medical equipment very well.

I like the XC70 for a station wagon. In fact, if I was forced to drive a station wagon I would pick in this order: Volvo XC70, Ford Freestyle (I completely disagree with EJBasile on the Freestyle being ugly) :), Subaru Outback. All kind of have a sporty almost "small SUV" flair to them. Most on the market look like nothing more then a mini-van anymore.

What is the number one ugly vehicle in my book right now? 2006 Subaru Tribeca. It somehow makes the Pontiac Aztec look good... I saw one at the dealership and gasped to myself. Ewwwww!

Well, thats not a pic of mine. I'll have to take a pic for you.

No lift kit. That one just has knobby tires on it. Also they are 4WD. DON'T buy a craftsmen (or crapsmen as I call them). They'll last probably a couple years before everything starts falling apart on them. Also, those Home Depot knock-off John Deere tractors are junk. They're like entirely made of plastic. And I'm sure that $1999 craftsmen tractor has 25hp. My tractor was... significantly more than that. Then again mine also has other features but still....

Now I'm starting to sound like a country bumpkin/hick with all this tractor talk. See, I have all me teeth :D and I'm not wearing overalls. (I think 35% of people in the poor south/west think losing teeth is a family trait, like loosing hair -I think was said in time magazine)

Go for the xc90. The freestyle honestly looks like a car based SUV project gone bad. That and a very very tall station wagon.

Man, I love that car! I'm a Holden man myself but the Territory is seriously awesome. BTW, I don't think the Americans are getting it any time soon unless FoMoCo changes their opinions of Australian exports. :(

--------

I still cannot for the life of me understand why people feel the need for Large 4Wd's with Bullbars in Australian suburban areas. I understand if you live in the bush or going to the snow every year. But for those who don't WHY? It's not like you are going to hit a Kangaroo while driving down ANZAC parade.

As for the Territory? Jacked up Falcon Wagon refined to suit 'aspirationals' who like the idea of sitting above everyone. Ford also feel that 7 seats is a selling point. How many Territory buyers are 5 kids? Also considering that the territory is not a serious off road 4WD and even sells in RWD form what is the point? They make even less sense today with increased fuel prices.

Still you have to give Ford Australia credit for doing their demographics homework. Blah blah battle with nature status/hight...good looking...etc etc

asqy, I completely agree with you in that there is a time and a place for crossovers. I don't generally drive, I usually ride and I can tell you first hand that SUVs are the new Volvos - incredibly safe albeit only for the driver. Having said that, Australia is a big country and there are some pretty shoddy excuses for roads around here.

Sure, a Territory is no LandCruiser, but not everyone needs such a competent albeit cumbersome 4WD and the Territory offers a pretty good compromise between something that'll get slightly off road but won't churn through massive amounts of petrol and take up a massive road footprint compared with the Toyota. Kudos to Ford for making such a car IMO.

Nevertheless, I recognise that far too many Territory buyers are going for the high driving position and intimidating road presence of an SUV which are not good enough reasons. These things are heavy and dangerous and measures should be taken to keep them controlled in cities. Whether that is through licensing, taxing, or something else, that's a totally different topic. :)

It's a Volvo 740 GLE from 1988. 7.4 Bloody litres!!!!!!

Crikes. Is it still tank-like? We had one of those when I was a kid but I think 2 litres was more like it. It must shift (and drink fuel).

Sorry everyone, i assumed 740=7.4l, i did some research using the interweb, and it has a 2.7l,16-cylinder, turbocharged engine (with fuel injection) and is infact from 1989.

I'm guessing that's an in-line six cylinder, not a sixteen cylinder engine. :)

no, trust me ,on the website of volvo tank stats it says that the 740 GLE was given, at first a 4-cylinder engine, then, in 1987, it was given a new engine, which has 16-cylinders.

There's no way. Got a link to that website?

According to a book I have, the only Turbo 4 Cylinder that the 740 got was a 2.3 Liter with 157-162hp.

Over all I am pretty happy with it, the V6 is fairly economical for a midsized 4x4.

where do you live in South Dakota?

Congrats, i just got mine a couple of months ago. I don't have any pictures of my car other than the ones me and a buddy [who is a pro photographer] took of my car; my favorite is the second photo. I had this photo printed at 20" x 30" to make it into a poster for my room. i had the poster titled "QuickSilver", and signed by my friend.

If you removed all the stickers what would the vehicles structural integrity be like, also how many more MPG/MPH would you get and another thing how much more easier would it be to reverse park it. :p

Just the same though I'd love to know how the hell you reverse park a car with all the rear windows obscured, he/she must choose large parking spaces or just doesn't give a damn.
