I've begun work on my Classic Mac Mini

I decided to go with a Mac Plus case instead of a Color Classic case because a) the mini will fit in the Plus case with all the parts quite easily especially since I'm going with an 8" LCD display. B) I found a website giving away Pluses for free :) which is alot cheaper thena $50+ Color Classic.

Soon I will have the most powerful Compact Mac on Earth!

So went and picked up my order of compact Macs today for the project, and not only did they have Classics and Classic IIs, they had Mac Pluses, Mac 512k (FatMacs) and they had one Original 128K Macintosh...

Which I promptly traded a Classic for. So now I get to complete my project and I'm the proud owner of an original 128k Mac. You know they saying, one persons trash...

Actually it is. A Hami Touchscreen. It's going to be tight but it should work. I just have to decide what to put it in now. I have a Mac Plus case, Mac Classic and a Classic II to choose from. I won't put it in the 128's case for obvious reasons. You don't destroy the Original Mac.

IMO you should set it up so that you can mirror it to an outside display. Makes it easy for you to connect up a 20" display or something so that you don't have to strain to see the 8" screen, or if you get tired of the 8" display... yknow what I mean, right?

Yeah. That was my only reservation about using the Mac Mini. I may still switch to a G4 cube, drop a 1.4 Ghz accelerator into it and user a graphic card with both ADC and DVI so I can dual display. Since I've got half a cube already I only need a few parts to make that work. That would also free my Mini to be my home entertainment center.

The Classic II is in the lighter grey plastic, right? I'd go for that, because you're more likely to find a matching keyboard and mouse, personally, ;) Also I think the lines are a little cleaner on that case than the Plus....

Your observations are true, however in the spirit of bringing back my childhood I've chosen the Plus case for the project since it has so many vent holes on it which will facilitate airflow.

And I tested out the Original Mac I saved from the scrap heap and it's a puff. Comes right up looking for a disk. Screen is burn free and in great sheap too. I feel like I stumbled on to a piece of history.

Sounds cool, I'd like to do something like that one day if I can ever find more time. I also hope to make a fish tank out of a Classic or a Cube one day. I know this has been done before - its not my original idea.

Yeah I did it two years ago. Worked out well for a while, until the tank cracked.

Unfortunately the Original Mac won't run anything above System 3.

I have a System 1 disk image... got it from this linkety (http://www.nd.edu/~jvanderk/sysone/). You need to use something that can mount an MFS disk, which would be OS 8.5 or lower. Maybe 8.6 but I'm not sure on that--System 7 I know can. Use Apple's disk utilities or I have some free ones that I can get to you.
