Sorry, I have the iPhone 4. I don't have the exact model, but I know it's older than the 3GS model.

Seems to be that I don't have that model either. I'm guessing it's an old iPod dock. My iPhone fits in the charger, and works perfectly and charges. I was more wondering if it will harm my battery in any way, because I know they make separate chargers like this one for iPod, iPhone, etc.

If it's an Apple product, and it works correctly, I think you have nothing to worry about :D

I would however be concerned if it's a fake, or a copy. But that's me personally.
