Lately my superdrives fails to read and burn cd's. toaster fails at the closing session when burning and data cd's are read as blank cd's
-however there is no trouble with DVD's both reading and writing.

thanks in advance

i had this problem recently.

first you need to open up console in the utility folder and then try to burn a cd and post the error.

i called the apple tech one because googleing the error message yielded mixed results. anyways the apple tech will suggest right away to do two things. drop your burn speed to 12x and use Verbatim brand cd-r.

This worked for me for awhile then it stopped. i ended up buying and external burner.

Wouldn't a SuperDrive have one lens/laser for CDs and one for DVDs? Maybe the CD one is dirty or something.

How do you burn cd's from the console?

oh sorry. the "console" not "terminal". the console will just display what error message os x sends when the burn fails. you burn as you would normally either from finder, itunes, toast etc.

How do you burn cd's from the console?

You don't but if you have the console open while you burn, it will give you the error that you say you are getting.

These are the last two entries in my Console.log:
2005-03-09 16:04:33.595 System Preferences[14941] has battery
2005-03-09 16:04:33.598 System Preferences[14941] has battery

You will know when you get an error while burning a disc and the console is open. Not hard to tell. Just post what it says and we will tell you what happened.

I had to stop it after aprox 20min of not doing anything...
