Download problem from web browsers

When in my web browsers (safari, chrome or firefox) I am struggling to hit the download button without the page just refreshing into a blank page or refreshing to show the current page. More often than not, right clicking to 'download link file' is not an option due to the link taking you to the download page (which is where my problem lies).

I've hunted for tips but have struggled to find any info on this issue at all. If anyone has had this problem or knows how to resolve it please can you help.
