View Full Version : iPad 2 Bumpers?

I love my new black iPad2 and the black leather smart cover. The lack of rear protection is concerning as it seems to be to most people. I have yet to see a solution I like and I am not sure that there is one. I don't want to cover the back. I go naked with my apple stuff. I hate the "frosted" clear protectors and the stickers or skins.

So I was thinking about something that could serve the purpose of protecting the back when I put it down on a table or desk. I am not looking for bag protection as I put the iPad in a fabric padded sleeve when I am transporting it. I happened to be installing cabinets in my kitchen today and was putting something like this on the inside of the doors (http://www.amazon.com/Rubber-Bumper-Protect-Cushion-Surfaces/dp/B000JLD7LO).

This got me thinking... could this be a solution? I was thinking of putting 4 of these low profile "bumpers" on the iPad - 1 in each corner. This would allow me to put the iPad down on a table and give it a tiny lift to avoid scratches and sliding.

Am I nuts? Or might this work? I am looking for feedback before I try it... I am also worried it will affect the smart cover angle postions...

The things I am looking at are clear and are approximately 2 mm thick. I am looking for just enough to get the iPad off a desk so it doesn't slide against a piece of sand and scratch.

I use these all the time, on lots of things.

Heck, I put one on my stove vent hood to cushion the cabinet door when it opens against it.

I've been known to put them on remotes before I put the batteries in, to protect the bottom surface.

I use them so often I buy them in bulk on eBay.

But, honestly, I wouldn't use them for this application.

Buy a film for the back of your iPad from SGP or Bodyguardz, install it, and call it a day. It is unobtrusive, won't move around, won't collect lint, and you can set your iPad down without worrying about scratches.

Trust me on this.

Thanks . I am going to give the SGP ones a try. I appreciate the feedback.

You did the right thing. Aluminum is soft and scratches very easily. With a film on the back, you'll never have to worry about that again.
