iPod 3G not charging - stuck on apple image

I have searched and so far cannot find a solution to my problem. I have tried reset using the power/mode button for 10 seconds, no luck. I have tried rebooting my computer while it was connected, no luck. It just will not charge, or boot beyond the apple icon. It shows the charging icon, but doesn't take the charge. I've tried these multiple times throughout the day and there is no change.

Does anyone have any ideas for how this can be resolved? It's over a year old, so no warranty.

This might be an obvious thing you have already done, but have you tried a different cord or different USB port etc.?

Just use another charger to have a try,and the data cables are often have problems
