systems restore

Hi, is there such a thing as ....systems restore like on windows on my imac?
 
Seems long winded compared to the systems restore on windows, so you need to back up your computer on an external hard drive to restore.?

Yes. Time Machine has a big leg up compared to System Restore. It does version history on your personal files, not just system files. Plus with the external you're protected in case of internal hardware failure. The biggest advantage is that if you ever want to reinstall MacOS, you can restore the apps and personal files without messing with the OS.

That information went right over my head lol I am a beginner to imac so its very difficult to work my head around things at the minute. I liked the Systems Restore cos you only had to press the button sort of but this wow sounds complicated. I hope to God I don't have to restore my imac in the future. lol 😀:apple: I am backing up with Time machine on an external hard drive that will be OK ?
