I also have to stay up... though it's 8am, which kinda helps... on the other hand, I've not slept yet...
What indeed could it be?
If it's a Power Mac update, I'll admit I've slipped into the Twilight Zone where everything I want to happen magically happens....!

possibly the eMac update or the memory boost to the power macs.
unsure though ...

Not wishing to be depressing but it probably is regular maintenance. Not too many people online at 8am Sunday morning (in the UK). And who releases new products on a Sunday? :p

Oh yeah the new eMacs/iMacs - I've never known them do something on a sunday morning though....A VERY odd time to be doing stuff!!

It says it will be back within the hour and I don't think Apple would release something on Sunday night (west coast time). So I think this is just maintenance. I wouldn't get too excited.

This is looking good :D
Hope that there will be some nice updates
new iMac's, PowerMac's or even Tiger
I hope that it is one of those and not just the 512MB RAM accross the board. But if the PM's or the iMac's will be updated they have to get 512MB RAM as standard ;)

Shall we play "Who can guess the update"?
I guess new iMacs/eMacs and Power Macs all with 512MB RAM, and Tiger in less than a month...?

I don't think that its any kind of updates. Usually when apple releases a new product and updates the site, the site isn't down during the keynote :p They don't actually have to close down the site while their doing it. All of the new pages just replace the old ones.

I doubt it's just maintenance if all the worldwide sites are down. I'm going to predict pre-orders for Tiger, with a slight chance of eMac and iMac updates.

Has anyone ever tried to call one of the numbers on the page that comes up when the store's down? Maybe the telesales team can tell us what's happening? I'm not near a phone, otherwise I'd try.

It is only down for maintenance - Apple usually do over the weekend at the night US time, I expect that it is preparation for Tiger that is due to be announced at the beginning of April - well if thinksecret is right anyway.

I really hope you're wrong but I've got this sinking feeling that you're not. :(
Unless Steve is surprising us with 3GHz machines so that we're all more forgiving in June.

No not for sure, but I have seen the store for the same reason at the same time many times in the past. For some reason I can't seem to buy anything from the music store in the UK either - I just get an error message - Is anyone getting the same error message ?

Ok Happily cause then there still is a chance it is a product update! ;)
But still hate to agree with you..... I am affraid is is just server update or something.
On the other hand: Different time for pruducten update is not bad... Apple will be big news on monday, cause all journalists had time enough to write something!

Umm no. There hasn't been a single time at a keynote when a new product was release for sale that day where you didn't get this:
http://a248.e.akamai.net/7/248/2041/xyz122/store.apple.com/Catalog/US/Images/welcome.gif
right in the middle of the keynote.
My bet is 512MB across the board. It's been down for a while which might suggest they are updating A LOT of pages. PowerMac, PowerBooks, iMac, iBooks, Mac Mini. Either that or something broke and they are having issues getting it back up but I doubt that.
[Edit: Guess not. The minis are still at 256MB as are the baseline iBooks and PowerMacs. Too bad.]

Apparently i received a mail from apple at 4:52 am (CET).
dutch web version here (http://email.euro.apple.com/store/eblast/storeanniversaryreminder0305/seg4/benl/index_benl.html).
The icons on the right point to a site makeover?
In the mail they state there would be a new iPod and iPod accessory site.
They also market iSight and some lower prices.
So indeed, maybe there will be no product updates
EDIT: ha, went up while typing, iPod shop does look different, more accessories as well i think (like different style headphones)

I've had a look around, and nothing seems to have changed, all the things mentioned so far were there before. Probably just performing some maintenance, or getting ready for an actual update.
Abstract
Mar 13, 2005, 05:39 AM
The only real updates I expect are updates to the site, possibly some grammatical and spelling error fixes, and that's all.
A countdown timer for Tiger may be a possibility, but I don't know if it would come before WWDC, and that's quite a stones throw away, so........nah, its nothing. ;)
