A really dumb question...

I have a Pioneer SuperDrive (OK DVD burner), arriving this week from OWC to snug in along side my existing DVD/CD-RW drive in the G4 MDD tower.

I would assume that selecting master/slave will decide which bay opens up when I press the eject button, or drag a disc to the trash, but how am I going to open up the other one? (Or do both of them open up?)

When you drag a disk to trash (or eject it with cmd-E) it's quite obvious which drive will open... :p

Dont think there's a way to open an empty drive with the eject button, though... I've tried with my external Sony burner, but with no luck... if someone actually have a way I'm very interested, too... :)

Once, when I had a CD-ROM in the other bay of my G4, the 'Eject' menulet in the top right-hand corner next to the clock showed 2 drives.

This showed as a little dropdown menu for the two drives with two options.

The keyboard shortcuts for the two drives are: Eject and Alt-Eject.

That seems like an internal thing... The Eject menu thingy doesn't recognice any of my external drives (a Sony CD-burner and a LaCie DVD-burner), only suggests to "Close Combo Drive", and that's an empty slot loaded drive... :o

Yup.. and if somehow you don't get that menu-bar thing automatically upon installing the second optical drive, this is how you activate it manually:

Just double-click Eject.menu. It's in Your Computer/Your HD/System/Library/CoreServices/Menu Extras/

edit: .. forget it i found my own answer, but i'll post it for anyone that may need it.

To remove the Eject icon simply, hold down the command key while clicking and dragging the icon out of the menubar space.

This little app puts an eject icon on the menubar and allows you to eject any cdrom plugged into your computer, even external one's.
