Hello World...
There is a weird problem with my iPod.
After I jailbraked my iPod Touch 4G, the Capacity got weird...
I have bought a 8GB iPod Touch, but the Capacity had shrunk to 6.46 GB!!
I thought the Jailbreaking files were weird and took up a lot of space, but I check personally on the Internet that Jailbreaking didn't talk up a lot of space!
Something weird has happened to my iPod... Please help me!
If you guys know the answer, please tell me!!
Also, can you guys tell me a solution for this problem...
Thanks:cool::)

your capacity did not get weird. This happens to every ipod. Apple TELLS you they are giving you 8 GB of memory before they install anything on there. But since it comes with built in apps (Maps, safari, contacts) it takes away from the space that originally comes with. I noticed this too. There is nothing you can do about it unless there is a way to un-install those apps, which I have not come across yet. Hope this helps. And if you are worried about your memory, you should think about investing in a larger ipod touch. I know its more money, but you are getting a better deal. If you do the math right the 8gb $229 model costs you about $28 per GB as opposed to the 64GB $399 model which costs about $7 per GB. Just a thought. I have the 8gb and I hate it because my music takes up about 5 of those 6.46 gb. :(

Yeah the 8GB model is a joke, it SHOULD be 16GB. 8GB wouldn't even hold my music (even only putting on my favorites) let alone apps and videos.

No one should even purchase that model, I mean for a mere $80 more you could have 4 times the capacity.

Yes your capacity is normal, jail broken or not the operating system takes up space and you've also got the binary vs decimal system as far as capacity goes.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPod; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8J2 Safari/6533.18.5)

Guys... Thanks
The thing I'm wondering is that why do the built-in apps take so much space!!

I think there's the formatting too
even without everything installed it'd be only about 7.5gb of usable space. then the os and pre-installed apps take up even more

I'm hoping an itouch 5g comes out with 16 GB at the same price as it is, that would awesome.

Bad business decision by Apple but it will make the consumers happy.

you could jailbreak it, ssh into the ipod and delete the files of stocks, weather, contacts, calculator etc. just remember, when you update they'll be back

You can also do a factory reset to blow out all of the bloated logs that chew up your "other" space. BTW 8gb is such a waste even for a nano let alone a Touch.....

The thing I'm wondering is that why do the built-in apps take so much space!!

It's not just apps:
1) It's the rest of the firmware, that includes graphics, sounds, drivers, apps etc. The firmware itself is stored on a 1/2 GB partition, so you're losing that space right off the bat...
2) Space advertised is unformatted, formatting requires overhead.
3) I'm not entirely sure about this, but Apple may be reporting "8GB" as base 10 (1000mb/GB) rather than base 2 (1024mb/GB).

Man, I remember when I would have killed for an 8GB iDevice...

*looks wistfully at his trusty 4GB 2G iPhone that he used for several years before getting a 32GB 4*

I was over the moon with my 2G 4GB Nano when I got hold of it. Was a great iPod actually and I regret selling it on.

That is pretty normal it is only 8gb before any software goes in.

Your iPod Touch has 11.9GB of space... What you need is a custom firmware with a shrunk /var (Your system file directory) the smaller your system install and Cydia package the most space available to you. I've got a (8GB) iPhone 3G and it reads 6.4 of 11.9GB free of space...
