For the classic Mac OS days, AppleTalk was great. For modern use, AppleTalk is clearly outdated/inefficient/impractical compared to other protocols. Consider this article a history lesson on the protocol Apple used primarily back in the pre-Mac OS X days.

The only problem I have with this article is the heavy emphasis on a Protocol which only exists on older machines running Classic appearing in a PC magazine read by PC admin types who may only remember OS9 or earlier, other than that it is a very informed read.

I'm sure most readers of PC Magazine would gloss over this article anyhow. Furthermore, I doubt it would ever even make it into the actual PC Magazine but instead is likely "internet exclusive content" :)
