I recently purchased an iPhone 4 (through verizon) and cannot get it to work with my MacBook. When I plug it in it won't show up in iTunes. When i try to upgrade iTunes, it tells me I need to upgrade Safari. When I try to upgrade Safari it tells me I need to upgrade my OS. I've got OS X Version 10.5.3 and it gives me a software update for OS X Update Combined 10.5.8 but when I try to install this update, it gets stuck on "Configuring Installation." I've tried letting it sit for hours and it just gets stuck at the same part every time. I'm desperate for some help!!!

How are you updating your machine; via Software Update? I assume that the "configuring installation" screen appears after you restart your machine. Try leaving it overnight and see if it installs.
