Good day. I'm using the early 2011 model of the Macbook Pro 15". I used to remember from using an older model that it is recommended to every now and then drain the battery completely until the MBP goes to sleep. So I followed the procedure outlined in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1490. I used the MBP until it got to 0% and then after a few minutes, the display turned off. The "sleep" light only glowed once and then faded and never came back on or pulsated. Therefore, I could not tell if the procedure resulted in the MBP going to sleep or resulted in an unsafe, forced shutdown. I waited for a few seconds and then pressed the Power button. That brought up a gray version of the desktop with a counter at the bottom and when the counter was done, I was back at the desktop. There was not the usual Apple Logo that displays when the MBP is booted up.

Can anyone confirm if what happened was a sleep or a forced shutdown? Is this procedure safe to perform?

I did notice in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1490, that the above calibration step is recommended for occasional execution on all MBP models minus a couple of ones from mid-2010 and mid-2009.
