its shows the typical thief has no set look. my apartment was broken into year and a half ago and it still stings. Only now I have a very protective 4 legged lady who watches the place when I am not around .

My 1g iPod touch was stolen 2 years ago, so I know the feeling. Nice to see that in some cases, the thieves do not get away without it.

I wonder if there is something like this for the iPhone as well?

I know there is something for jailbroken iPhones. Dont know if there is a legit app that does the same.

iGotYa works with your standard native iOS passcode lock system. After setting up your information in Settings, if your passcode is being tampered with on the lockscreen, it will automatically snap a picture of the person who is trying to use or steal it and sends the picture along with the GPS location to your designated email address. Obviously, iGotYa will require Wi-Fi or 3G to send this information to you.

It's interesting reading the comments on the article. Apparently, in the UK, taking the pictures like this is some sort of "human rights/privacy" violation, and would get the burglary victim in lots of trouble instead of helping his case. And it seems that some of the people posting those comments really support that idea. I think that's crap!
