I bought an iMac DV SE 600MHz Graphite on eBay for 20 the other day as I've been in a retro mood for a while, then bought 2x512MB PC133 sticks of RAM for 99p each after reading how much RAM these machines could support. I used to have the Blueberry iMac DV 400, and knew that it supported 512MB RAM.

The two sticks of RAM I bought for it make the iMac unbootable. The power turns on but there are no chimes, no image on screen and no hard disk activity. I have tried taking one of the chips out and trying again, then trying to put it in the other slot. I've tried it with both sticks of RAM and have finally conceeded that the RAM isn't going to work.

So my question is: is it because I bought PC133 rather than PC100 (although it has a 256MB stick of PC133 in) or is it just because it only officially supports 512MB RAM?

Thanks

It's not because it's PC133. PC133 is validated at faster timings than PC100, but broadly speaking they are backwards compatible.

Any markings on the RAM to indicate what brand and type they are?
