I can't get this right. On Apple's own DVD-R it is written quite clearly 4.7gb media, however when I insert an empty disk it shows it has only 4.28gb available.

What am I missing ? well, I mean apart from 0.42gb (quite substantial I would think). Any ideas ?

thx

Its not gigabits vs. gigabytes, its giBibytes vs. giGabytes, And while that is part of the issue, the rest is lost to formatting.
