I can't get this right. On Apple's own DVD-R it is written quite clearly 4.7gb media, however when I insert an empty disk it shows it has only 4.28gb available.
What am I missing ? well, I mean apart from 0.42gb (quite substantial I would think). Any ideas ?
thx

maybe it's something like how a 40 GB HD holds only 38.3 GB because it's 4.7 GigaBits and 4.28 GigaBytes

Its not gigabits vs. gigabytes, its giBibytes vs. giGabytes, And while that is part of the issue, the rest is lost to formatting.
