Same here. I absolutely LOVED that machine, more than any other computer I ever had. There was just something about it that I loved.
I used to take it everywhere with me. On trips, on the train, on the subway, to work. It lost 3 feet, gained multiple scratches, the lid warped and so did the body but I still love it. It's now with my dad (retired.) :D

The first computer my family bought was a Mac Plus, it was soo sweet, my dad still has it up on their attic.
The first to be exclusively mine was a performa (630 I think), but that didn't leave any big impression on me... it was kind of ugly and I didn't have much use for it back then...
After not using a computers for a few years, only a bit of pc's, I got a 12" iBook 3 years ago and was immediately a born again Mac-user!
...and he lived happily ever after.

My first mac was an SE (unless you want to count the Apple II clones...had a Franklin Ace something-or-other). Sadly, neither one is with us any longer. :(
I have managed to keep all of my old powerbooks up and running, though (a 5300 and a 'wallstreet' model). Still a lot of fun to goof around on! :D

My first was actually a clone-a Umax c500 desktop I bought in '97. It was quirky, but got the job done. I actually cried when I boxed it up to send to my cousin in design school-it changed my life. It was my first computer!

Mine was a LC that I got from my college. I was already waaay out-of-date, but I got by. My first real purchase, though, was a G4 Sawtooth 450 MHz. It was with me until a couple of months ago when I sold it to my girlfriend, making it her first Mac.

Since my father was an Apple Developer back in 1983 I was able to use many different Apple Computers. I started using computers when I was 7yrs old. Most of the following computers have been thrown to the landfill with the exception of a few. Here goes:
*Apple IIe (the first computer I used and learned on. Played Karataka all the time on this machine!)
*Apple IIc (this was my personal computer my dad gave me. I remember playing games on the green screen)
*Lisa 1 & 2 (never liked them but my father’s team used them to write programs for the upcoming Mac)
*Mac 128k (I remember my dad receiving these by UPS one day. He got a bunch of them and I remember how weird they looked compared to my IIc. I also remember the day it blew up! My dad thought I did it and started yelling at me but when another unit did the same he realized there was something wrong. It was a power supply issue, ahhhh Mac Paint and Chess were my favorites)
*Mac 512k (Never got to use it much, these were my dad’s main computers for his biz)
*Mac Plus
*Mac SE (to this day I still have it and it still works with the old Apple Imagewriter! I used this until 1993)
*Macintosh Quadra 650 (this is what I used mainly in high school up until freshman year in college. The last Apple I used before going the Windooze route)
In 1995 I abandoned Macs as a whole in favor of Windows. I remember in college they had a few Power Mac’intosh’ styles running OS 8 and I thought it was a joke compared to Windows. In 2000 a good friend of mine bought his first Powermac G4. As much as I loved the way the thing looked I hated OS 9. I thought it was a joke compared to Windows ME. Later that year he bought a Powerbook G3 and I remember this was the first time I’d ever heard of “firewire”. My friend used these computers up until last summer 2004! He bought a PowerMac G5 as he is a graphic designer. He was able to sell his Powerbook G3 at a fair price (crazy) and invest that towards a 12” iBook G4. When I witnessed OS X 10.3 I was hooked.
After 9 years of using Windows I came back to the Mac! It can only get better now!

How about everyone else? What was your first Mac? Please excuse me, yet I'm confused by that. Do you mean Macintosh SE? I don't remember an Apple SE, but maybe they had such a model outside the USA.
My first Mac was a Macintosh. The very first original release version. I jumped on the Macintosh ride right from the very start. I was an Apple II (among others) user prior to Macintosh. I think that first Macintosh is referred to as the 128k model version. I had mine upgraded various times until it ended up as a Macintosh Plus. I tried holding on to that one as a collectors item because of all the signatures inside the case, yet I have not seen it in years, so I am guessing I sold it or lost it during one my several moves over the past several years. I think it ran System 7 from an external SCSI Hard Drive. Wow, that brings back some memories. I still have a bunch of System 7 era (early 1990s) software and books, if anyone is interested, please PM me to let me know.

First Mac I used: Powermac 8200 200MP (not sure about the 8200 type but it was a 200Mhz Dual) at the studio I used to work for (got replaced in 6 months with a G4 Dual 500 because I started to complain about the lack of speed :p)

My first was a sawtooth G4 - absolutely rock-solid on OS9.
Unfortunately, it was not possible to install OSX or Linux on it for some reason. The installers would always crash. Once, I actually finished an install of OSX (10.2), but it was unusable due to kernel panics.
I tried everything I could think of - swapping hard-drive, swapping DVD drive, pulling non-apple memory, zapping pram, etc. Nothing helped.
I'd still be using that machine for something today if OSX were installable; instead I donated it to a museum that still runs OS9 on all their Macs.
I'm more than happy with my PowerBook and new PowerMac, for sure.

I think my elementary school went all Mac when the first macintoshes were released... and my highschool was one of the first businesses to go all apple wireless. We had a ton of clamshell ibooks and imacs. My first personal was an iMac last gen CRT before they released the LCDs. I kicked myself for that one. Missed the release by only a few short months. My highschool went wireless my senior year 1999/2000. I am not exactly sure what computers my elementary school was using, I just remember that they were macs. Probably late eighties early nineties machines. First gen mac was a bad guess. :p

I think this was regarding the Macintosh SE, no need to get worked up about it :D .Oh, I wasn't worked up, no, no, no. You mistook my comment. I just never heard of an Apple SE before. I thought maybe that was another version of the Apple II series, like the Apple II GS, that might have been sold outside the US.
What confused me about the model name is that the original question of this thread is "What was your first Mac?," yet several people are answering with "Apple" series computers (Apple ][, Apple //e, Apple //c, etc.), which can be confusing because Apple is the brand and manufacturer name, as well as the model name: Apple I, Apple II, Apple III, and variations.

Technically my first was a Mac SE
But I really started my education of Macintosh on my Macintosh LC. The original pizza box LC. I would play HellCats Over the Pacific to death on that thing. And Prince of Persia.
We had an Apple 300 Caddy loading 2x CD-Rom. OOOOOhhhh and then we got Myst. Which it was tough to play cause we only had the 12in. color screen that came with the thing. and Maelstrom, man, I could go on for a while.
Then we got a 7500/100 , a beige G3/300 , then my B/W G3 400mhz.
Wow, I've had a lot of machines through the years. Next up is a PB 15" 1.67

The 6100/60 pizza box...one of the first ones built. I was lucky enough to receive it as a high school graduation gift back in '94. It served four faithful years before that dreadful experiment I had with a UMAX clone. 8MB RAM and a 250MB hard drive. I think once we added in the 13" monitor, a B/W printer, and a bit of software, the tab ran close to $4000.

The good ol' Apple ][e.... My mom was (is) a teacher and she got it through the school (I think they were throwing it out?)... I'd say 99.9% of the time I spent on it as a kid (which, for a while there was a couple hours everyday) was spent playing educational games (Number Munchers, Oregon Trail, Speedway Math) or creating stuff to print out on The Print Shop....
That is, until my older brother took a programming class and the teacher gave him copies of Jeopardy, Karateka, Pooyan, Conan, and Pac-Man.... :D
[Edit] Now I see people are getting picky semantically, so my first "MAC" was a PowerMac 5400 LC.... Again, my mom got it through the school during my senior year in high school... First thing I surfed the web on. Downloading sound bites from my favorite movies was the pastime of the day... WAV files taking hours to download... ahhh... memories...

Edited reply: never had a mac.No worries, WithTea, my post was not directed toward you. I had asked a question of another member earlier in the thread and 840quadra tried to flame me for that. So yeah, Apple model series computers are not Macs, they don't run Mac OS. A Mac is predominantly the OS, specifically the GUI. Yet, Macs are Apples because they are made by Apple Computer. Hmm, go figure! ;) :)
The good ol' Apple ][e....
[Edit] Now I see people are getting picky semantically, so my first "MAC" was a PowerMac 5400 LC.... Again, my mom got it through the school during my senior year in high school... First thing I surfed the web on. Downloading sound bites from my favorite movies was the pastime of the day... WAV files taking hours to download... ahhh... memories...Also, no worries to you iWillard. I don't think there is a semantics issue, but I guess you could call it one. The original question asked about Macs, not Apple model series computers. Apple model series computers are not Macs. A similar situation would be if someone stated that there first Mac was a Commodore 64. That just does not make sense. I am not flaming. Maybe I am being too specific for some. To me it's like someone asks, "What was your first Chevy?" Then the person answers, "A Firebird." Well, that just doesn't make sense, even though both are made by General Motors.
So anyway, earlier in this thread that lead to some confusion on my part on a comment someone made about their computer and then another member tried to reprimand me or flame me. Then I tried to explain my confusion, so now here we are. ;) :D
There is another thread that asks, "What was your first PC?" :)
My first PC was a Texas Instruments, I think.
My fist computer was a Wang. (And yes it was a big Wang! Just to complete the joke. )
My first Mac was the very first Mac model to come out: Macintosh. :) It was great I remember it well.

PowerBook 140 that was given to me in late 1999. A few years ago it fell off my bed and killed the floppy drive and I have yet to replace it, otherwise it works quite nicely. I have two batteries for it and a printer and it has an internal 9600 baud modem. I really like that little machine. It was simple, easy to use, and did the job quite nicely.

My first Mac was a Macintosh LC II. Got it in 1992 when they were new, I was 10 years old. It was my first computer. Got it with the 12" Apple RGB Display, would display 256 colors. The LC II was 16MHz and had a 40MB Hard Drive. Bought it with Claris Works 1.0. I was amazed by what I could do with that little computer, but it's just sitting in the corner collecting dust today. I kept it because I wanted to show it to my kids someday!!

The LC II was 16MHz and had a 40MB Hard Drive. Bought it with Claris Works 1.0. I was amazed by what I could do with that little computer, but it's just sitting in the corner collecting dust today. I kept it because I wanted to show it to my kids someday!!
Once upon a time, computers don't fit in your pocket and don't have multi-touch displays...

My first Mac was a Mac 128K we got in 1989 used. The first "big upgrade" was getting a Mac Classic a couple of years later.

Mine was a Quadra 700, which we were given in 1999 or 2000. It was our family computer, but one day it started giving a 'bus error' on startup and we basically threw it away. Wish I'd been able to fix it now.

Personally, my first mac was my PowerBook G4 Titanium 800mhz that was purchased during the 10.2 launch party. I got 10% off due to the event and had my dad's educator discount added as well. I think it's finally had it's day due to obsolescence, but it was an awesome machine. I'd sell my new 2010 MBP before giving it up.

Centris 610. I still remember how in love I was with System 7. Such a sweet OS back then, especially coming from a ][GS.
My next Mac was my true love, though, a PM 7600/132. I miss it to this day.

First Mac to enter the house was an SE/30, but my parents deemed it unnecessary for someone my age (8ish?) to have their own computer, and thus it was donated to a local school. It was so old by then they never used it, which made me sad...
Few years later I got back in the game by buying an iMac G3 500MHz for 60 bucks. It had OS X 10.3 on it, and I instantly fell in love with the OS. I suppose you can say the iMac was really my "first" mac, as I bought it and was able to keep it a while, but that SE/30 will always have a place in my heart :)

The first Mac I've ever used was a 128K, which my Dad brought home one day in 1984. As a five year old kid it was amazing - MacPaint was such a leap beyond anything I had used on the PC and TRS-80.
The first Mac that I could say was 'mine' was a IIcx that my Dad passed down to me after he upgraded. I had that until I went off to college with a PowerMac 7500.

First:
Apple IIGS
No HD, 5.25 floppy and first 3.5, first computer to be able to use 16 colors at once, chosen from a whopping 4096.
Favorite:
Quadra 840AV
with the VideoVision Telecast system (that I got used for $100). Had the Jackhammer SCSI card and an external 9GB RAID that I paid $1500 for used (it was over $4K new).
If I turned all extentions off, and even turned off the system clock I could get 29.97 FPS on a good day.
