Just wondering if anyone knows if your Google Exchange, contacts etc... syncs with the cloud. I would like to migrate everything over from Google to the cloud.

Would like to know this too. I currently have all my contacts imported with my gmail account. Contacts have always been a pain in the butt.

i presume if you turn off gmail sync and tell it to keep the contacts, then turn on iCloud's contact syncing and merge, it would do it. i've not tested that tho

I have just tried what was suggested above but when you switch off contacts on your gmail acct you can only delete from the device or cancel to keep contact syncing on...

In Google Contacts, export to CSV if you're on a Mac and then you should be able to sync to iCloud from Address Book via iTunes. Retarded? Yes but that's how it works right now since there are no cross-sync applications. If you only have contacts on the phone, sync them over to an Address Book instance and then resync to iCloud.

Yup, that's what I was going to say.

Worked like a charm but the contacts won't synch over the cloud to my iPad. It's setup exactly the same as my phone. Probably an iCloud glitch. Tried turning contacts off then back on but no luck.

I think this is because other than for itunes, icloud is not turned on yet. If I'm wrong, please say so, but I think the only icloud functions turned on for now are music, apps, books and find my idevice.

i'm using iCloud for contacts, email, photostream, contacts, bookmarks and email all tied in with outlook and photostream direct with my 'my pictures' folder.

with contacts, there seems to be a little glitch, sometimes it takes 5-10 mins for it to kick in initially, failing that, take it off and put it on again

After thinking about it last night I think your right.
Not all the features are turned on yet. No worries
the iPad 2 is just for fun anyways. Really only needed
the contacts on my phone right now.

So, how exactly do you sync to iCloud? I have synced my contacts from my mac on to my phone, but the only contacts going to the cloud are new contacts I create.

What do I need to do to transfer my old contacts to iCloud?

If you hit the arrow in the top corner of contacts that says Groups it will show you.. All contacts, On My iPhone, From My Mac, Exchange, iCloud and when you hit iCloud it will show you all of your contacts on iCloud.

I've been using Mobile Me for some time now. I've never been totally thrilled with iSync on OS X. It balked when I had a Palm. It balked when I had a Blackberry and it balked when I tried to sync with google contacts. But I must admit that when I'm using "all Apple" gear, it works like a charm. Anything I change on one device shows up everywhere else. Very nice. I'm sure Apple will get this working with iCloud but I'm not willing to switch over until I read in the forums that iCloud is working as well as MobileMe is working for me right now.

Perhaps I'll create a test account with a duplicate of my contacts and move that to iCloud and see how it works. Then again, I've worked so hard to switch my data into shape maybe I'll just wait a bit...
