I'm trying to create a little app to quickly and very simply upload files to a space on my server and then copy the url of the uploaded file to the clipboard.
Ideally it would run up in the menu bar (think CloudApp (http://getcloudapp.com/) but not as feature-packed).

I've tried creating something in Automator but it's not quite where I want it. Any ideas how I could create this bearing in mind I know nothing about Xcode etc?

Your best bet would probably be a simple script. Applescript should be able to do it, as should ruby or python. Any of these can be set up to be accessible from the services menu at the top of the screen.

Here is an example applescript (http://arstechnica.com/civis/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=603829) for ftp file uploads.

This seems to be a pretty common problem that has troubled many. We have now added a solution (which can be improved) onto CodeRater.net.

You can find it at:
