Mounting CD image on harddisk as a CD?

Hi

Is it possible to make CD image and copy it to the harddisk and mount it as though it was a CD - so that programs requirering to read from CD would know?

I have some software (legally purchased!) that I use frequently and I would like not be required to carry the CD with me all the time - plus my PB is noisy when accessing the CD compared to the harddrive.

Yes, I know toast has its uses, however, we should be pointing out how someone can do something with the built-in utilities especially when the utility works just fine. We don't want people to think that Mac OS doesn't come with any utilities.

Unfortunately the program can still see that it is not a CD and thus will not recognise the image. I have tried both a .dmg and a .cdr file, but it doens't work :-(

Some programs know what a real CD is supposed to look like. What program?

Toast CD images will mount as if they are CDs. You should try that.

I tried DVD/CD Master as well, didn't work. The program is Rosetta Stone. Looks like toast is the way to go then.

It's most likely Rosetta Stone checking the connection to the mount point. I don't have Rosetta Stone to test it on, it's just an educated guess.

Other applications do work with mounted disk images.
