What should I do from here?

A while back I applied online to a new Apple retail store that had just opened up. I got to go do the seminar and all that, and it was a pretty cool experience. Anyways, I came home and checked "My Positions and Assessments" on the Apple site, and in the 'Action' column, it has nothing listed under it. I'm not sure if this is normal or what, but it's just blank.

So I get an email from the store manager; "At this time we have chosen to move forward with other candidates that meet the needs of today." with all the other pretty stuff around it. So I call up there and find out you have to be 18.. So I was put on hold is what the guy on the phone said, and to resend the application when I was 18.

So now that I'm 18 (about a year later), I sent an email to the manager seeing what was best to do, and I got an "Out of Office" type response.. And that all messages would be returned on a certain date. Well it's been about a week past that date, so I called up the store and found out the manager is out with a stomach virus, and should be back in within 2 days or so. It's been about 5 days after I heard that news, and still nothing. I have resent in my application/resume again, and it's still blank under the 'Action' column. I'm not sure what it's suppose to say there..

What should I do?

Well something isn't right here, and I'm trying to find out what is going on. It'd be nice to know a 'yes' or 'no'. I don't necessarily need a job at the moment, but I have great experience in the computer science field and it'd be great to be able to share that knowledge with others, and also get paid for it at the same time!.. I suppose..

EDIT: And yes, there are many other retail jobs that sell computers and stuff like this, but you know it's a completely different atmosphere when you're around Apple.

Err... I think you need to read some descriptions of what a retail job actually requires. I'd hazard the guess that your "great experience in the computer science field" will not help you at all. You're either deluding yourself or are overqualified for the position.

Oh I know that's not the requirement. I was just stating what I have. I'm getting tired of keeping all this information to myself.. I want to be able to share it with those who are curious about technology.. I know it's more then just knowing about the devices.. You have to be able to present the information well to a user who's not familiar with electronics in anyway.

I can see what you're saying, but I guess I'm just speaking about brand wise then. I just like the brand, and the general atmosphere it has.

In any case, if the guy is coming back from an extended illness, his inbox is probably quite full. In addition to his regular duties, I'd give him at least another week before bothering him again.

True, I suppose if he was on vacation or whatever, then didn't get to return in time because of an illness could cause quite a pile-up of messages.

To add to what has already been said, I wouldn't harass the guy too much. That's a quick way to a "no" answer regardless of your qualifications.

Exactly, in no way am I trying to be pushy for an answer.. But I do want one.

When I have a message that hasn't been responded too at the time told it would be, twice now, .. It makes me wonder.

I'm just starting college.., and I know I'm not going to be writing code as a Specialist.. I'm just looking for a job with a store that people are always visiting. I like the experience people can have when visiting the Apple store.. I want to be apart of it. I know I'd be showing grandmas how to find the pictures they took with the camera app.. But that's exactly what I want to do. I know that doesn't involve coding.. But I'm pointing at computer science to show I know the basics of how to do the simple stuff..

Make an iOS app or even a mac app.

That's what I'm saying.. I want to work for Apple because I like them, and they have a generally busy store at my location. Which is a positive for me.

Anyways, all the "Computer Science" talk has nothing to do with this thread. This isn't the question as if I'm capable/non-capable of doing this job. I know what it is, and I know what to expect. I just need to know what to do from here.

I'd say that's definitively true for Apple. But hmm, I just don't see that being the case.. I'm just hoping the reason for no response yet is the overload of messages.. She might still even be out. Stomach viruses can be dreadful!
