How to backup documents and images to iPod?

I have a 20 gig ipod and only about 6 gig's of music on it. I'd like to be able to specify that all image and documents files sync to my iPod when I plug it into my PowerBook, just like with my music from iTunes.

I'm fairly Mac-illiterate and need some step-by-step instructions.
 
Great news about the programs. Can you recommend one that fits what I am asking for?

I don't have .Mac.

I've tried a search of versiontracker.com already. That's why I have posted here.
