Hi All,
I was looking for an external hard drive for my mb. Its one of the older version and has about 200gb storage. I was looking for something which is small enough for me to carry in my bag and which can transfer using firewire 800 and usb. Any suggestions for this ?
Thanks in advance.
EDIT:
For example, I like this ..
http://www.amazon.com/Western-Digital-Passport-Essential-Portable/dp/B0041OSQ9S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1308676140&sr=8-1
But it does not have a firewire port.

Are there any cheaper firewire 800 options? I can't seem to find anything for under $100.

I'm on the same boat as you. Looks like I'll have to spend $150+ if I want a 1TB portable external hard drive w/ Firewire 800 access.
I saw the one mentioned earlier in the thread:
http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firewire/on-the-go ($165)
I also found this one:
http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firewire/EliteALmini/eSATA_FW800_FW400_USB which is $168
I wonder which one I should go with.
Or I guess I could buy this for $70: http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/MSTG800U2K/ but I'm not sure what a 1TB hard drive that would fit would go for

I ended up with an mercury pro elite mini, and I'm very happy with it, then I got a Momentus XT to swap out my internal and put the internal in the enclosure.

if you want a portable, 1 TB and firewire im pretty sure everything is over $100. but you can buy one that requires AC power (not powered by USB) thats around 100 or less. i have a 1.5 tb and 2 tb my book studio that i got both for $120 on ebay. i am daisy chaining them through firewire and then when i want wireless access, usb them to my airport extreme. tell us if you want portable or it doesn't matter and we can guide you towards a good HD with firewire. if you want to look on your own i highly recommend western digital and seagate. i have had great experience with both.
