I a ripping bluray disc and transforming to mp4 with subtitle.

HOW ?

I use two softs :

1 - MAKE MKV
2 - MP4 TOOLS - http://www.emmgunn.com/mp4tools/mp4toolstools.html

PASS :

1 - BLU-RAY TO MKV FILE - With this soft I select the audio and the subtitle I want.

2 - MKV TO MP4 FILE - With this soft I transform the mkv to avi with subtitle.

MY MKV TO MP4 SETTINGS :

1 - I select the MP4 and then :

2 - Video : 1 pass
- Audio : AAC5.1
- Subtitle : Burn (hard)

I tried the audio with AAC5.1 - it was ok when playing with vlc but no sound with itunes ou quick time.

I tried subs with mux (soft) but it didn't work for me.

The guy who makes mp4tools is on this forum every now and again so he may be able to help.

In Mp4tools you should use the setting that adds a 2-channel aac track in addition to 5.1 aac. Most Apple devices and apps prefer that.

Why are you using 5.1 aac? The only time I see people using that is for HTPCs and maybe PS3. From my research, Xbox360 can't use it.

If you are using mostly Apple devices ie iPhone, iPad, AppleTV2, then it is best to use a 5.1 ac-3/Dolby digital plus a 2 channel aac. This way it works in stereo on the Mac and iOS but gives 5.1 ac-3 on the AppleTv2. the Mac should be able to send the 5.1 AC-3 out if you are using digital optical to a compatible receiver.
