View Full Version : Good mic setup for webinars

My company gives several educational virtual seminars per month through GoToWebinar. We have a small room in which we do these virtual seminars and run into issues with audio quality. There are a lot of issues with environmentals that I'm trying to resolve but a large part of the problem is directly related to the poor quality of mics we currently use. We need 2-3 mics/headsets that can be plugged into a computer and used. Ideally, they would be noise canceling to minimize feedback. Our budget is somewhat large for this - these seminars bring in a large amount of revenue and audio quality is of utmost importance.

Any tips or suggestions on mic solutions?

If you have the budget, you should definitely look into the environment. Get a professional to insulate the room a little better. DIY would be using window and door seals, and egg cartons on walls. Put carpet, and thick curtains to insulate it better. Tiny rooms do have a tendency to give echos, which is no good for recordings.

The next thing is the quality of the audio interface you are using. What computer are you using, what audio card? Best is for you to have an external one like Apogee (http://www.apogeedigital.com/products/one.php), so you get the best audio quality. (Confirm whether it's compatible with your software).
