reinstalling jaguar

i have a jaguar upgrade cd that i used to upgrade my imac g4. now, i want to totally back up my system on cdrs, initialize, and then reinstall 10.2 from scratch. could that work? if so, how would i do it? also, i want to partition. i use osx 100% of the time, so how much would the os9 partition need?

there is also no "archive and install" option on the upgrade cd...
