Ipod touch 3 8GB screen replacement

Hey, I'm a little confused and some advice would be greatly appreciated. I currently own an Ipod touch 3rd gen 8gb and the outer glass is a bit fractured. I am willing to repair it myself although since mine is technically a 2nd gen renamed do I look for 2nd gen repair kits? and do Iphone 3G repair kits work too?
