I've been looking for a CD/MP3 of an orchestral version of Franz Liszt's "St. Francis of Assisi, Sermon to the birds". The only CD that seems to have it is long out of print:

LISZT: St. Francis of Assisi, Sermon to the Birds. Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra / James Conlon (Erato 88235)

Does anyone happen to have this CD or know where I might find it? For once, Google/etc has failed to produce.

Yeah, nuffin.

I've been going through my iTunes library trying to clean it up (10 years of lazy use and it looks pretty gnarly :)) and I'm getting down to the dregs now that have no home/name/album/artist. Thought I might look for this song again, and my own post is still the #1 google hit.

I just googled 'Erato 88235' and saw 'Buy' next to the top entry. :o :D

If you get your hot sticky paws on it, I'm pleased for you. :)

Just a thought - not picking - are we allowed to bump threads? Honestly, I really don't know..

Not usually. But there's a big difference between bumping a thread that's a few hours or days old, and one that was created four years ago.

yellow could have created a new one and no-one would have batted an eyelid, but when one of your threads is near the top end of Google results, I guess you hope that one day, someone might find it and reply. :)

I figured I could get away with since it's been quite some time between posts. And, it worked!! :)

Yeah - I just wondered. I mean, if you're a contributor or mod it doesn't matter really (it's not like a regular member going bonkers with it). Thx.

Good for you that you managed to locate it (a lovely piece); have you bought it yet? Let us know please when you have it in your (pace Blue Velvet) "hot sticky paws".

In the early years of CDs, a lot of excellent classical recordings were made, but sadly, many are difficult enough to track down these days.

Cheers

Got it!

It's as beautiful as I remember.

There's one particular portion of the song that builds to an inspiring crescendo, when I heard it first it was the perfect evening.. darks and cloudy post rain, with the setting sun poking through here and there. The sky ranged from shades of blue, orange, yellow, red, and pink.. some reflected off the clouds.

I'm an atheist, but I could almost believe right then..

So it's been a few years, but I can still see the image in my mind's eye.

Unfortunately the sound level is terrible on the disc. It's barely audible on my MBP with the sound maxed +100% in iTunes. Still, it's great to have it.

Thanks again BV!!

EDIT: I'd share the song, but it's a whopping 17MB. A bit sizey for a forum attachment. :)

Thanks again BV!!

No probs. :)

I'm wondering whether you could run the ripped file or an AIFF through an app that will boost the gain? Not ideal, but it might help.

Mebbe. I'm far from an audiophile.. for the moment, headphones or stereo will work.
