Recording length is only a few seconds. Help!

I can only record about a 15 seconds through the mic on my PowerBook to
a track in GarageBand. It won't let me record any longer. How do i
adjust this? I have looked over the Help file and can't find a way to
lengthen my time of recording. What obvious setting or preference am I
missing?

Are you sure you have enough disk space to go further?

Well, I figured with 47 gigs left free on the HD, I'd have enough room. I was thinking further on this. Do I need to shut down, Safari, Adium, Entourage, FireFox, TextEdit and all other running apps, so that the GarageBand can use more of the processor?

Yeah, you might give it a fresh restart and run only GarageBand. I'd say that's a good place to start!

Uncheck Master Volume on GB

It's on the left side near the bottom of the screen.
