So recently I've purchased the new 2011 i5 13" mbp. I'm looking to tweak it out since this is my only computer and I do everything on it from minor games, to Logic, graphic design or video editing.
The only thing I've done so far was replace the stock 320/5400rpm drive with a Seagate Momentus 7200 rpm. I then took out the optical and replaced it with the stock HDD.
Recently, I was able to catch a nice deal on memory through newegg and upgraded my RAM to 8 gigs. (Source: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231295)
I then was browsing around when I noticed that the same Seagate momentus that I purchased had gone down in price to $60 (Source: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...2148374&cm_re=7200_rpm-_-22-148-374-_-Product)
I've really been looking into purchasing a SSD for this mac as I've seen the incredible increase in performance but cannot possibly afford losing the HDD space as my budget would limit me to a 60gb SSD.
So I was thinking, if I bought a 2nd Seagate and got rid of the stock 5400 that's just sitting in my optical as an extra space drive and ran them as Raid 0 giving myself over 900gbs on a single drive, could I potentially achieve half the speed of the SSD, and would I even notice a huge difference in performance and speed?
* Also, since I messed up by limiting myself to 500gb drive as my main HDD, I would need to spend twice the $ to get the full effect of this badboy; but this is a great deal IMHO: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...2148599&cm_re=7200_rpm-_-22-148-599-_-Product
$75 for 750gbs/7200rpm with free shipping! :|
But that last one was off topic, what do you guys suggest I do? Should I go with the raid on 2 Seagate's 500gbs/7200rpm and what will the result be like, any experiences?
