View Full Version : Trouble Reading Some Audio CDs

I've found a few Audio CDs that my Mac can't read, but every other Windows machine, stereo, car stereo, etc. plays the disc fine. Anyone have any idea what could be causing this to happen?

I insert the disc...and after 30 seconds or so it just spits it out.

Copy Protected CD?

Many of the CDs with copy protection may have problems in the Mac.

Don't think they have the Music CD Logo.

No, they're not copy protected CDs, as far as I know. Nothing written anywhere on them that says they're copy protected.

I've also had some problems with Enhanced CDs.

When was the last time your drive was cleaned with a lens cleaner?

It's a 2 months old Mac Mini. Shouldn't be dirty yet.

I occasionally have this problem too on my two month old PowerBook and eight month old iBook. It's more common with older CDs...they keep trying to spin up, but don't make it and evenutally they get spit out. Once in a long while, it won't spit out using any conventional methods (including holding down the mouse on restart) and I'll have to restart in Open Firmware mode to eject it.

I think it's an issue with the slot-loading drives Apple uses being very sensitive to irregularities in discs. The CD's work just fine in my four year old tray-loading iBook.
