View Full Version : My Ipod is not syncing well with my computer(s)??

Hi All,

I have rarely had issues with my 2nd generation ipod shuffle for the past several years (knock on wood) but now it is giving me grief.

I just purchased a beautiful Macbook Pro, and promptly started transferring my ITunes from my PC (Sony Viao) to the Mac. All was peachy....until I tried connecting my ipod. At first it was ornery and didn't even register...no blinking lights, no Ipod in the sidebar, nothing.

After much frustration and much switching, erasing, and syncing between my PC and Mac, the ipod worked on the Mac (on Fridays when it also happened to be raining and a full moon; in other words, intermittently). But occasionally working technology is better than nothing.

Now I have been having the same problem again. No registering of the Ipod on my Mac, no recognition of it even existing. Now I am using my PC Itunes instead, with limited success. I am starting to think it is not so much an Ipod issue, but a cable issue (my USB cable connector is a bit bent and I have to keep tension on it for the computer to recognize and charge my ipod). I tried a trick where I taped it around a hot water kettle, boiled water, and let it cool down (don't ask- it's a trick that I found on the internet for straightening out the cord) and that helped a bit but not much.

Has this happened to you, and have you resolved this issue? Was it the cord's fault, the ipod, operating system, or all three?? Any help would be appreciated- I am in love with :apple: products, but right now they are strongly testing my patience.

Why not get a new cable? There's 3 components that are potentially faulty: iPod, cable, computer. The computers probably aren't the problem, so surely it would make sense to replace the next cheapest component (the cable).

I agree AdrianK, that's what I'm going to do. The cable I have now is not specifically an "Apple" brand device (but worked fine up until now), so I think I'm going to try a different one.
