Am I at risk?

I have a LaCie external hard drive. I want to partition it to store files as well as house my Time Machine backups. What are the chances someone can hack into the hard drive to steal the files? I have the iMac firewall set up and it's set not to accept incoming polls but I don't have any crypto programs or apps that make files invisible.

Chances are almost nil, unless you are a very big target on hacker's radars.
