4gb ipod vs the new 6gb ipod?

and price, which is about 179 for 4gb new aand 229 for the new 6gb

If you are comparing the new 4 GB model to the new 6 GB model, AFAIK, they are exactly the same except for the storage capacity. Same colors, same size, same weight, same battery life, same feature set... just 50% more storage space on the 6 GB model.

The only difference between the 4GB and 6BG mini's are the hard drive sizes. They both use the same battery (up to 18 hours) and are both the same size.

How many gigs of music do you have? Are you going to put files on the iPod? If you think you're going to fill the 4GB, you'll want to get the 6GB mini so you'll have the extra room if you want to keep more music/files on it.

That and I think the "new colors" are a bit more saturated than the 1G iPod minis (and the gold mini is no longer available).

1st - Jan 2004 4GB @ $249 Blue, Pink, Gold, Silver, Green
2nd - Feb 2005 4GB @ $199 & 6GB @ $249 Blue, Pink, Silver, Green (slightly different color)

And gold. Main differences between 1st (available in 4 GB only) and 2nd iPod mini (available in 4 and 6 GB) are:

Gold-color model discontinued
Significantly longer battery life (8-hour vs. 18-hour)

FireWire 400 cable no longer included
