cable suggestions

Looking for some advice.

I have only ever owned one mac (powerbook g4). It is about 5 years old.

I will be buying the new mini when it is released and in anticipation for this I recently purchased a used LG 26-Inch PC/HD Monitor. 1920x1200 (Full HD 1080P) Resolution.

My question is whether the mini will come with the necessary cables to hook up to this monitor or whether I will have to purchase a cable seperately.

Also, even if it comes with cables is there a better cable to purchase?

The Mac mini doesn't come with any video cable (you can look at the Mac mini homepage made by Apple for what is inside the box). The display should have come with cables, but know, the Mac mini only has a HDMI and a MDP video out.

MDP to HDMI cables?

Should I try and purchase one of the MDP to HDMI cables then if I can get my hands on one?

If your display has an HDMI connection then just buy an HDMI cable from Monoprice. Otherwise if it doesn't have an HDMI then you'll need a MDP --> whatever the display needs (also get from Monoprice).

The 2010 mini has an HDMI port in the back so the refresh (if it occurs) is almost certain to have one too. In which case you could run the HDMI cable directly with no adapter.

HDMI is quick and dirty but wouldn't it restrict output to 1080P? MDP to DVI would give the full resolution of the monitor.

I don't think the jump from 1080p to 1920x1200 would be that discernible, especially on a 26" screen.

HDMI supports resolutions up to 1920x1200 (it's essentially a smaller version of DVI with the addition of audio), so it should drive the OP's display at full resolution.
