How to read ebooks epub and mobi files?

so downloaded some free ebooks but am new to this whole thing, do i need the kindle app? ive read something about that or can i just load into itunes?

it appears they loaded into itunes have not synced them yet though.....not sure which is a better reading experience or how to go about it :confused:

kindle app for mobi. just move it in through itunes (go to app on your ipad, scroll down, and click on the kindle app).
