What is the advantage of doing a clean install when all I am going to do is use migration assistant to transfer my most recent time machine back up. Surely all the junk that might be slowing down my machine will still be there.
Would the best idea to do a clean install, transfer your files then reinstall apps and reconfigure settings?

I don't know if Migration Assistant does this to everybody, but I reinstalled SL and transferred stuff with the Migration Assistant, to find out it never moved my apps. Don't trust Migration Assistant with your stuff.

Otherwise good idea.

That suggest to me that you did not have the option checked for it to do that as it worked fine for me when I tested that option a week or so ago, just as it did when I went from Leopard to Snow Leopard...
