Verdana size 10 - this isn't verdana, because that isn't an option, but at least I can make it small. :o

To ask a designer: what is your favorite font? is like asking a mother : who is your favorite child? You know the ones you hate, and the rest are all important to you. However, for personal use, I prefer Avenir.

WOW. And you also like green to purple gradients and drop shadows. ;) Sorry, I am bit cranky and critical. Sand should go the way of the Dodo, because it gives typography a bad name. But I can't criticize your likes, they are yours. :D

*hmph* What's wrong with green to purple gradients and drop shadows? ;) I like Sand too and Kidsprint. There are more that I like but I can't remember them.

It always looked funny to me without animation. I'm just having a little fun with it. :p
you should start a new thread about modifying other people's 'tars. That would be fun :D

This is very true.... I used to know loads of Music students, and I'd ask them who their favourite band was.... and never once... did I get an answer..... Designers are kinda similar I suppose when it comes to typefaces...... :p
I really like Avenir though... not seen that before..... even though I have it on my machine (I just checked) it's such a clean, crisp typeface..... :)
I also noticed that eye has picked Dogma for one of his typefaces as well...... nice choice... ;)
Now where's moxie??

I like Futura - in a number of styles, but Avenir is nice too (which is French for future - hmmm) I don't have that, it wouldn't happen to be a free font, would it?
And where do people go to get fonts!
I used to have Good Dog Cool on my mac, seem to have misplaced it, like that one a lot as well.

I used to go to FontGuy.com before it became a shareware service, along with a huge number of other font sharing sites. I guess I dodged that bullet.
Larabie Fonts (http://www.larabiefonts.com/) has a cool list of fonts. It's not a HUGE list, but there is a decent share of fonts there I like. It's mostly free, and a donation is welcome.

Manson, Bullet, Eurostile, Template Gothic, Centaur, Bell Gothic... How much time do you have?
Fonts that should die slowly:
Optima, Palatino, Sand, Textile, Reporter, Hobo, Barmeno, Gadget... How much time do you have?

Avenir was designed by Mr. Frutiger I believe. You might have heard of the typeface Frutiger - well, the same guy. Anyway, it's a Futura mod, where all the weird characters, like a, o, p, b, etc. are more clean and the overall kerning of the typeface is much easier to accomplish due to more balanced font width and x-height. It can be bought from many font houses or stock resellers. Eyewire, Adobe, etc. It is not cheap - the whole family costs upwards of 129 dollars.

Ahhhh but Futura has so much more character (pun intended) because of those fun quirks (although you're right, the kearning is a bear)! Avenir always struck me as more sterile than clean. Adrian took all the fun out of Mr. Renner's Bauhaus original. Plus it has a condensed face, too.
Man are we starved for some hardware rumors or what?!
Never apologize for suggesting Sand go the way of the Dodo, Z!

I agree with you there, I'd swap optima for any form of Helvetica though, it's so overused and optima can look okay in some circumstances.
