So I just replaced the hard drive in my 2010 MBP13". Toshiba 250GB out and Toshiba 320GB in. Did a full backup using the Carbon Copy Cloner.
Works fine, but the boot time is much longer now: from the "chime" to the user login it takes about 67sec and then around 40sec more until everything is fully loaded. I don't know how much the boot time was before, but it definitely wasn't that long.
Yes, I did select the new HD as the startup drive in the system preferences & restarted the macbook (3 times already!) and I repaired the permissions around 3 times too. SMART status is fine as well. Fully indexed.
There's another thing:
Around 40sec into the boot (while still on the apple logo screen), fans kick in really loud and then spin down to the usual 2000rpm as soon as the desktop loads fully. This did not happen before. What's up with that?
BTW, I did a full Xbench before and now. Everything is better or same as before and the overall result is much better. The new hard drive performs better according to the tests. Also, the drive performs very well in the machine, no problems whatsoever. Just the slow boot and fan noise during the boot process.
Not sure what more to do. Any suggestions? I am on Snow Leopard 10.6.7 (and intend to upgrade to 10.6.8 as soon as I fix this problem).
