Sorry if this has been covered already, didn't notice any similar threads in the first two pages (other than the accessories thread, which didn't cover bags).

I'll need a carrying bag for my new MBA, does anyone have any suggestions? Preferably on amazon.com?

I would like one that's light and has room for the MBA, its charger, and maybe a notebook(optional) and pen(optional)

While that's great and perhaps helpful, I'm hoping to find models that are more recent, not ones that were purchased back in 2008.

Btw, if you're going to reply with "google it" or "do your own research" you're of no help and please don't bother replying.

With new Apple releases comes new accessories for those releases, I'm interested in anyone who has recently purchased a carrying bag to carry the new MBAs.

totally loving this one. anybody any experience? I would just throw it in my backpack and wondering if that would be enough protection for my air?!
Also, do I need something between they keyboard and the screen? I heard that on some earlier macbook models you could see the keyboard demarcation on the sreen.

I wanted a genuine leather sleeve for mine. I have anincipio sleeve (http://www.myincipio.com/MacBook-Air-13in-Cases-Accessories/MacBook-Air-13in-Cases-Accessories.asp) which is well made and I'm pleased. However I have since met someone with a Joli (http://shop.jolioriginals.com/) sleeve and was jealous! Bit more expensive tho.

The one for the 11 inch exposes some of the sides and all of the top. Maybe the 13 does too. A buyer said that seams on his are coming apart.

Pay double for Incase and you get all around protection. Even the edges are padded because of the circumference of neoprene piping.

It haven't shipped yet so I dunno really. I live in Sweden though and it will be shipped from Germany, so once they ship it shouldn't take more than 24 hours. I hope to have it before the weekend.

I've really been looking for a case that doesn't involve a zipper. I'd like it have velcro or nothing at all.

My budget isn't very big at all, probably $25 max.

I don't need it to offer protection, just something to protect it from getting scratches if I carry it outside or put it in my backpack.

Anyone know where I can find a case/sleeve like that?

I got the new 13" MBA this week at our local mall. While there I saw a bag at a Dillards for $400.00 dollars. Kenneth Cole Reaction - Mind Your Own Business. Very nice leather and look. I can carry my iPad and MBA as well as my digital camera and cables etc - with room for work documents and folders in the back. Really not that big overall. I like it a lot.

BTW - Amazon sells it for Hundreds less. http://amzn.com/B000UN265O

I've got a bit of a bag problem here myself. Recently I discovered Tom Bihn, a US company that makes high quality bags using as many US materials from US suppliers as possible. They have a variety of travel bags, messenger bags, briefcases, and backpacks.

http://www.tombihn.com

The owner (Tom Bihn) is a huge Apple fan, and has a bunch of bags, laptop sleeves, laptop holders custom built to handle Apple products.

Seeing how you're looking for an Air bag, let me link you to the following:

Tom Bihn Ristretto for 13" Macbook Air (http://www.tombihn.com/page/001/PROD/300/TB0223)

Tom Bihn Ristretto for 11" Macbook Air (http://www.tombihn.com/page/001/PROD/300/TB0221)

To give you an idea about the bag looks, I snapped a picture of my Ristretto for iPad. It's the smallest out of all of the Ristrettos.

http://i.imgur.com/GXi8m.jpg

I think I can fit an 11" Air in here without a problem. The bag also comes with a bunch of O-Rings that allow you to snap on organizer pouches that Tom Bihn makes.

Since I found this company, my life has become much more organized :)

You definitely can fit a letter sized notebook in there. As for the lunch bag--I suppose you could put a sandwich that is in a plastic sandwich bag into a Medium Organizer Pouch, and then slide it into the main compartment infront of the padded section.

It seems that Deutsche Post is a bit slow (even slower than the Swedish postal service), it wasn't until today that they managed to move it from Hamburg to Frankfurt to then prepare to ship it internationally to Sweden. So I do not think i'll get it until Monday, but as soon as I get it I will post something.

This is the bag you may be interested but it is expensive when you compared with brand like Incase because it is made by the Japanese company Porter Yoshida collaborated with Monocle (Porter x Monocle) and is made in Japan.

http://shop.monocle.com/travel/porter-shoulder-bag

http://shop.beams.co.jp/shop/bjirushi/goods.html?gid=384971

The bag comes in black and olive green. It was designed to hold the old Macbook while remaining very very small. Moncole web site has excellent customer service which I can recommend.

The bag is Cordura Nylon and the roughness is similar to Crumpler. It is fully padded in the main compartment (bottom, the two vertical sides) and the front pocket has two roomy pockets which hold the MagicSafe power adapter. I can even hold a thick wallet inside one of those pockets. Also has two slots for the pens. For the Air, it is recommended to put in a thin and light sleeve to avoid the potential scratches from the zippers of the bag when taking the Air out. There is lots of room for the other stuff in the main compartment with the 11.6" MBA and when placing the 11.6" MBA inside, you will still some room between the zipper the the top of the Air, unlike the Macbook shown in the Youtube video in one of the links.

But people seeing the picture only may think it is a cheap canvas bag until you see the actual thing with the details.. LOL

ordered it on Etsy. These wool felt cases aren't cheap! But I figured if the incase sleeve would be around 40 bucks, I'd rather just pay 20 extra for a nicer looking one with pockets. I'll follow up with a review once I get it.

Waterfield sleeves are excellent and provide great protection. I have the Sleevecase for my 2010 MBA, and it's really well padded.

They actually have a whole line of bags (http://www.sfbags.com/products/macbookair-cases/macbookair-cases.php) for the MBA.

I have never liked anything from Tom Bihn or Timbuk2. They look like they're built for teenagers.

Got the same case for my 13" macbook book air. Offers great protection with top notch build quality. Has a classy look, and also got it with a sleeve strap. Can easily remove the strap if i want to store it in my backpack too. Great case. Highly recommend.

If you are spending about 1500 on a macbook air, might as well shell out another 100 on a quality case.

Was thinking about an one of those etsy cases above but decided not to since they probably dont offer too much protection. but they do look damn sexy.

I am looking at a waterfeld cargo messenger bag for the MBA + iPad + a textbook, charger, and other small things.

A) could it fit all of that? the small cargo messenger bag? I got the Thule Crossover messenger and it's great, but it's a bit bigger than I had wanted. Perfect for overnight size, but too big to carry to and from class with just a laptop, iPad, and Textbook.

B) if I got that, should I get a sleeve for the MBA and/or iPad to put in the bag? Sort of like a dedicated portion of the bag, as a substitute for not having a dedicated separate laptop area?

I'm sure it will fit all of that. depends on the size of your textbook though. and accompanying your mba and ipad with sleeves would also take more space. Something would have to give. i would go with a sleeve for the mba and leave the ipad without one. im sure a smartcover would be adequate anyway. dont know why you would need both your mba and ipad for class as it is more of a distraction than beneficial tool but to each their own

I like the Grid it by Cocoon. It is lightweight, holds all kinds of things and fits into another bag, etc, if needed. One thing it comes with a strong odor that you need to let air out first. After that it works like a champ. It is $50 which some may feel a bit pricy but if you look at the sleeve and the grid it section, it is worth the price. Here is the link for the 13 inch one. There is also one for the 11 inch and the ipad as well.

And I was wondering if it offers enough protection to just throw it into a bagpack with books and stuff!

I would say it will be hard to get anything else in. It is wool though, so it will stretch out with time. It will be a hard fit at the start though, right now it is snug just with the Air.

I would say it offers enough protection. The felt is pretty thick. I would dare to throw mine in a bag/backpack as long as its not enough room in there for stuff to move around too much.
