Is it possible to downgrade my old iPhone 3G to iPhone OS 3.1.3? (I do have an iPhone 4, which I'll keep at the latest 4.x.x when iOS 5 and iPhone 5 come out.)

Yep, just get your hands on a 3.1.3 IPSW and shift + restore with iTunes. You won't be able to restore from a backup though!

Oh yeah, forgot about the 1015 error.
Needless to say I don't do a whole lot with the iPhone 3G anymore. 😛🙄
