Do I have to have Wi-Fi off to get 5 hours off my battery life?

I'm getting just barely 4 hours (just under 4 hours actually) with my backlit keyboard off, light on low, and wi-fi lightly browsing (about 1 page per 1-2 minutes).

Is 5 hours only for word processing with Wi-Fi off?

5 hours is pretty generous. My computer is rated for 5 hours, but will actually do 3.5-4 with fairly light use.

I have seen around 4.5 hours under very light web browsing use on my 11 inch i7. I could see it reaching closer to 5 on a cooler day, but it's so hot even indoors lately. Don't mind it personally, I have a HyperMac battery when on longer trips away from the socket.

Make sure you install clicktoflash for Safari. Blocking all the flash stuffs will give you more battery life.

clicktoflash doesn't work under safari 5.1

What about FlashFrozen? Although, now that I look at it in the App Store (it's free), it hasn't been updated since April.

Interesting, I still get 5-6 hours on my MBA 2010 11" Ultimate (2 bar screen brightness, wifi on with citrix apps running with mail and word) This after over 100 cycles on my battery.

It does. Make sure you are using the Safari extension, not the older Safari plugin.

It seems like the 2011 MBAs get shorter battery life than their predecessors, is that correct?

Please don't say so :(
I'm almost set on buying MBA 11 Ultimate, but need 4 hour battery life each day from it. Otherwise I'm buying the MBA 13 Ultimate ;)

Did you disable Bluetooth?

What config do you have?

Yup it does work, but make sure you update it, even when you install it off Apple's Extension Gallery it is out of date and it needs an update.

Been contemplating a flash strategy. Love the longer battery life without it, but there's a couple of sites I go to that require it. I figure options are:

1. clicktoflash on safari

2. try another browser to put a flash plugin on, such as chrome, etc, and use that only when I want to visit said sites

3 notice my iPad browser can identify itself as other browser, and as either mobile or desktop. when browser is id as mobile, many sites are h264 rather than flash. is there a desktop browser that can identify itself as mobile to get the sites to present themselves as h264?

4. buy into the apple company line and go without flash for now on the mba

Opinions, ideas or advice, anyone?

My old 2010 11" Ultimate had the same battery life as this new 2011 11" Ultimate I have, that much I can confirm. If anything maybe under heavier use the 2011 one has a tiny bit less battery life, but under light use they are very close to equal. I got ~4.5 hours with it under my typical use, and I get ~4.5 hours now.

As always, it varies. People use their computer differently, disable power features, prefer higher brightness levels, different apps running in the background and all sorts of things.

you guys prefer clicktoflash over broken box?
