I am thinking of trying this mod, if it possible to open the MBA superdrive - I'll know when my 2011 Mac Mini arrives.

I seem to recall finding a guy who once did it, but Google didn't help me very much.. 🙁

If I had wanted an ugly setup, I'd made a hackintosh with an off the shelf cabinet..

Buy a G-Drive and modify the case to accept the Blu-Ray components and preferably a slot load Blu-Ray drive.

Even if you could open the MBA Drive, I doubt highly you'd find a Blu-Ray drive that would fit properly.

Sorry, I find it pretty ugly.. 😉

Well, Apple found a way to fit something in it.. 😛 But that is why I want to know if anyone has tried it out.
Why not use the Mac Pro cabinet to build your hackintosh 😀
The MBA Superdrive is going to sit with a 2011 Mac Mini that I just ordered, for a Plex mediacenter.. I don't think the misses would prefer a Mac Pro next to the TV in the living room. 😉

Wow, that actually looks nice! But, the price.. :S

I know.... $200 + for a BR read only.... that's almost Apple territory 😛 especially considering the sleek slot loading version is up one hundred f*ckn bucks from the pretty ugly tray loading version. Seems like they not only stole form factor but also the revenue strategies of Good Ol' Steve.
