Ok, we have a PowerBook setup thread, but my searchs turned up no iBook setup threads. I know there are hundreds of iBook users out there, so what are you waiting for? Post your iBook setup!
I will do mine in just a second, once the camera has charged! :D

Okay, here you go....
The first picture is where you'll usually find me working on the iBook: sitting at the kitchen counter. The wine glasses in the background were from last night... I'd NEVER work with a glass of wine ;)
The second picture is the print/recharge/DSL station. Lots of cords, battery/cell phone chargers, etc., conveniently tucked in an out-of-sight corner of the TV room.
The third picture is my home-audio center in the living room: yet another iBook, the original G3 model, which now mainly serves as the "remote control" for my Cube music server upstairs. You don't see the Airport Express hiding behind the bookcase.

12" iBook G4@800MHz (Rev A) with 640 MB RAM (changed one 128 chip with a 512), 60 GB HD BTO, Airport Extreme, Combo Drive, Keyspan BT USB dongle (I could hit myself for not getting the internal BTO).
Use iSync to keep addresses and calendar on my SonyEricsson T68i up to date.
Have an Airport Express hooked up to my HiFi, and use the iBook as a jukebox when I'm home...
Frequently loaning a LaCie d2 4x DVD-/+RW FireWire drive for backup purposes...
Are you sure there hasn't been an iBook-thread, already...?
[Picture is from the day we got ADSL in our new house...]

It's a 1.33 Ghz G4 with 768 MB RAM and the 80 Gig HD. I just got a combo drive since most of my files are small and I don't do video.
edit: Oh, yeah, it's got internal bluetooth, too. Forgot -- I hardly ever use it. Maybe someday I'll get a bluetooth phone and it'll get some use.

Yeah, cool. I would've got internal bluetooth, but I needed to get mine before I left the States, so I had to order it stock. I love the DVD burning though.
Ok, here are some of mine, featuring my iBook, and my Tucano second skin for it.

You can use iPhoto to export them at a certain size (pixel dimensions). If they're still too big, open them in Preview and use the File--Export command. Click on "options" and decrease the quality of the .JPG.

Yeah, that's a new 100-400L IS USM, still on a big learning curve with it, though getting better.
I'm mainly an aerial photographer, but I'm starting to do some sailboat and powerboat photography, which requires a longer reach.
Obviously my Website needs work, but I'm trying to learn Flash so I can do the whole site with that application.

Here's pics of my setup. The specs are in my sig. It's not normally this neat and tidy, but these were taken right after I finished cleaning up the place. The TV on the left which looks tiny compared to my monster center channel will be replaced with a larger HD set soon. Also, I need to get a cord channel to hide the wires coming down from the shelves. I used some of them to hide speaker wires and lamp cords in the back of the room (pics here (http://www.ghostee.org/gallery.php?path=/room)), painted with the same color as the wall, and they look awesome. Computer specs are in my sig. :D

Thank you, and that is no illusion, the screen is small from my normal distance. I'll occaisonally pull the iCurve forwards, but I usually find myself leaning forward over the keyboard. It's not all that comfortable really, and the screen is not big enough for my liking when at the desk (while lounging on the bed or out, it's great). At some point in the near future, I'd like to add either a 20" iMac, or a 20/24" Dell widescreen LCD. The only reason I havn't so far, is that I can't decide between the two! :D

Hey, I want to add my two cents to this...
Well, here is my temporary work space. I say temporary because the Dell will soon be replaced by a PowerMac! Yay for me.
Okay, so what you see here is a collection of pics of my iBook set up as it usually is (mind you though that I cleared my desk off for these pics). The iBook is a 14in g3, 700mgz, with 192mb ram, a combo drive, and a 30gb hd, it has no airport so I have to tether it to my router which you can see is in a mess right now... In the background (or on the desk however you wish to look at it), is my PIII 550mhz, 512mb ram, DVD+-R/RW, zip 100, soundblaster audigy 2 ZS platinum, 12gb and 80 gb hds. The monitor is a dell/sony trinitron with a whole bunch a stickers and crap on it. The three speakers are the front speakers for my 5.1 set-up, and the plaque is just cool even though it is not up (got it when I had a better TV set up, now that my tv doesn't even have real pro logic, my pc gets it). To the left of the monitor is my atomic clock/thermometer, and behind that is my four port powered USB hub with a four port mini USB pluged into that (with now only a card reader for my canon 20d). To the right of the monitor is the tablet and my bamboo plant pot. The weird thing on top of the tower is a gift I was given once (it is officially called a mini longlegs as it is a short version of a series of similer design only taller and with longer legs...). The scanner is not hooked up yet cause I rarely use it for anything since I've gone digital.
Yes, my room is dark, and no I never use the dell any more since getting the ibook last month (used). Though not really my first mac, it is my first mac, and either the first or second computer I have bought... The dell isn't really mine kind of borrowing it for an extended time. The first computer I bought was an eMac for, at the time, my fiancee. Anyway, I don't get to used the eMac cause she took it after she left me... oh well, at least our son is adorable. I have used macs since as long as I can remember, unfortunitly got stuck with the dell though a while back (like 6 years ago). OSX really is a great OS compared to XP Home, I wonder why microsoft doesn't just port it (ha, just kidding).
Well, I know this really doesn't show of the iBook much, the dell and CRT really are monsterous next to the iBook, but I must say, that the iBook has been getting so much more love then the dell these days. In fact, now that my stupid online math class that only works on a PC with IE is over (failed unfortunitly), the only thing the dell even gets turned on for is to play music using iTunes (another great apple software product). It takes to much time to turn the dell on; like into the minutes, as in press power, go to the bathroom, the kitchen for a snack, check the mailbox, sit down, wait another couple minutes... I once timed it at over 8 minutes, then again ot only has like 1 GB left between the two HD's.
I just now noticed that my 40GB iPod Photo is not in the picture, infact neither is the dock or any of the cabling. Well that just goes to show how huridly I cleared off the desk....

I wish the logo was right-side up, but I keep the book open about an inch so as not to sleep and the A shape keeps the dust off the keyboard, etc. The TV is an HDTV with VGA input. I get a 1280 x 720 resolution off it with Screen Spanning Doctor. Marine Aquarium is my screensaver. All my music is on my book and it DOES run though my stereo. I end up working from my coffee table with a cordless keyboard and mouse. I have most of the cables going down inside the vertical members on the shelves so as not to look messy.
It's my wall of geekdom! :D

I probably would have bought a mini if they were around at the time!
It has been nice on the rare occasions when I've wanted to go portable. The only downside has been that screen spanning cuts my vram in half, which slows down some screen effects, but for the most part is unnoticeable. I live in a row-home, so being able to get EVERYTHING on a 10" deep shelf was an incredible space saver! - j

I cleaned up my desk a bit and shot a picture (see attachment).
Here's the scoop:
The black thing with the cord is a vintage Western Electric Model 500 rotary telephone, ca. the 1950s, with the apparently less common metal dial.
The beige thing behind it is a shaving mirror.
Below that is a green-topped Altoids Citrus Sours can, holding paper clips, ballpen springs, mechanical pencil leads, a replacement eraser for a wooden pencil, and three black Parker fountain pen cartridges.
Next to that is an iPod FireWire power brick, and a bit further over is a bottle of aftersave. What you can't see behind the Mac is a Texas Instruments graphing calculator and sometimes some papers.
Below those is a 3G iPod in a black iSkin, a 64MB Iomega flashdrive, and a small Swiss Army knife.
Underneath the computer is a pair of old Realistic (Radio Shack) headphones that I use when I want better sound without the discomfort of iPod earbuds.
The iBook G3/800, of course, is on a Griffin iCurve -- what's interesting is that I have used the wrapping clip along the power cord to loop it around the iCurve so it's always near where I plug in.
A bit further to the right is a Parker Reflex fountain pen -- the reason for the cartridges in the Altoids can, and next to that is a coaster.
On the other end there's just a pen cup, a some Penguin Mints, my asthma medication, my wallet, a change bowl, lens cleaner, and a Nokia 3210 cell phone -- no BT or anything like that, so when I wanted to download a vintage-phone ringtone to it, I had to use a Dell and a data cable.
Plugged into the USB on my keyboard, and at the sides of it, are a SanDisk CompactFlash reader and an Apple mouse. Fellowes gel pads, green.
Golfer-shaped lamp should be apparent.

Like all great things I learned at college, the more you learn about a subject, the less you really know.
I went through ALL those books (not reading every little bit mind you) and my general knowledge of Marxism is still very limited and frankly more disjointed than it was when I started my work. The paper in question was a work which dealt with finding Marxist idealism or underlying concepts in Chuck Palahniuk's Fight Club. I got an A- on it :)
Nobody should ever have to look through so many books...and that was about half of em.

Seeing as how I don't have a digital camera (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=131732&page=3&highlight=digital), this is an old pic from when I was working with FEMA in Florida last year. A travel setup as it were. I'll try to get an updated photo of my desk and the Compaq speakers I currently have. My wife would say a better pic would be me sitting on the couch, though.
Specs below.

Whoa, awesome. So, with the screen spanning hack, you can actually get an external display running at a different res to the standard 1024*768 of the iBook? And you can make that res. an HD res? I will have to look into this, very cool.

Hey...what's wrong with floppies?? I use them all the time, but I go to a school where bringing a burnt cd, or installing any hardware will suspend you from the computers...and they block all email websites...options are limited. Other than their cirppling 1.4mb size for as big as they are, unbarably slow read/write, and constant failure to work..what's wrong with them? :p

Tell your lame school to get with the 21st century.
Use a USB memory stick. Don't want people to install software, use administrator passwords.

All I need now is a 4-port USB hub, as the iPod Shuffle is covering the other one!!

Yup, they taught us that, considering they actually blocked Calculator on the computer, as well as almost every other program except office and IE. At least we're using XP, that's a plus

Yes, it's a Lacie d2 16x Dual Layer LightScribe DVD/RW. The dual layer is awesome, and the drive is very fast, but I don't like the LightScribe. The discs are too expensive / hard to find and it takes more than twice as long to burn.

Are you talking about the Griffin iCurve? You can do a google/froogle search for it, they sell it everywhere. I can't remember where I got mine, but try Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00007L6IA/qid=1122234229/sr=8-1/ref=pd_bbs_sbs_1/102-1369570-4890561?v=glance&s=pc&n=507846).

I no :) I was just joking around ay how many Computers you have... o and FYI... you need to build up your PC to mac ratio. 3 PCs: 2 Macs... it should be 5 Macs: 0 PCs ;) :DThat will NEVER happen, for several reasons:
1. Can't run Exchange Server on a Mac.
2. Can't run Outlook 2003 or Windows Vista on a Mac (and Virtual PC is WAY too slow).
3. Windows Media Center Edition has no good Mac equivalent.
4. Xbox 360 won't talk to a Mac (but it will talk to Windows MCE).
5. I do web design, and since 95% of all machines run Windows, I do my development and testing on Windows.

1- ok
2- Windows Vista, not coming out tell 2007 (late 2006 is what they say. lol) and when it does come out Macs will have intel processors so VPC will work natively.
3- True
4- Xbox 360- not out yet
5- good reason to keep on sony desktop
ok so you need one sony desktop for Web testing. and a MCE PC.
how bout replacing a one sony desktop for a PowerMac??? 2:3???
clayj
Aug 29, 2005, 12:43 AM
I have to keep all three Sony machines I have:
My main desktop runs Windows XP MCE 2005 and is what I use for most of my work (web design, etc.). My second desktop runs Exchange Server 2003 and cannot be used for ANYTHING else, because it's a server and you don't want to do anything at all that might cause a reboot to become necessary. (Servers != desktops.) And my remaining Sony notebook is a work of art (http://www.clayj.com/html/BRVAIOBoy.htm), and I only really use it for troubleshooting network issues.
My Mac mini is primarily used for Internet radio and iPod management. My PowerBook is what I carry with me when I leave the house. All it needs to be complete is the new Macromedia Studio with Flash 8 (coming out in September).

Hi ppl...4th post today...any opinions on my setup?
Dearest Overclocker,
Although this is only my second post, I have serious wise improvements you could make to beautify your setup.
Firstly, lets talk about yoru working space. You've got too much **** on your desktop. And you curtain makes it look like only childish and nerdy champs use macs. if you don't mind, I can deliver you a tailor made "mac" curtains for free along with the icurve if you decide to buy it.
Also you should change the 15 inch mon to a 30inch apple cinema display. It will defintely be a better second monitor and big enough for you to see, (as you have previously mentioned in yoru earlier posts)
Thats all for now, Best of luck, Shadows

I enjoy using my iBook much more when doing everyday tasks such as web surfing, instant messaging, writing Word documents and the like but I still find my Windows machine to be useful. (Bittorent, FTP and watching movies)

Good old days. Floppy Drive. Is it still in the dictionary? I admit, thought, I used to use them up until 4 years ago. Then, I throw them all out because they just take up too much space in my drawer and my files are getting bigger and bigger each year. Now I only use CD RW or DVD-R or External HD for storage/back up. I still have the iOmega zip drive (but I don't use it any more).

I would but I've got two things against that,
- I'm lazy
- I'm moving out next year, I'd have to tidy it first, then untidy it to take it away, ( see first point :D )
On the other hand, I'll probably get round to it next weekend :p
